Confirmed we do not qualify for the CSU Yellow Ribbon program. Only post 9/11 G.I.Bill veterans.

Great program if you can get into it.

Jim,

What is your son looking to major in? I would start with his expected major and then see what schools are the best in that field. Then he can visit, apply, and see what aid they will give. We played one school against another for the best package. It's no different than using one RV dealer against another to get the best deal possible. Colleges are very expensive so we have to save where we can.

Thanks Ed

He is going for a degree in Information Technology with a focus on cyber security.

he has applied for university of Wyoming, Idaho State, and Colorado state. Looking at American Public University and one or two more.

Colorado State seems to have a good financial aid department that helps people find grants and scholarships automatically.

If he went to Idaho State we would have no housing costs as he would stay with family. Plus affordable tuition even if we couldn't get any decent grants etc...

Also - in the IT world, degree in basket weaving would be ok if you have certifications and can get your foot in the door. I have enough contacts that I can get him started with a position post grad.
