My dad, wounded in Korea. Always my hero. Remembered this Veteran's Day.

Should have been clearer.
My dad received schrapnel wounds to his legs during a mortar attack. He went on to lead a good life until he contracted lung cancer and died in 1990.
The posting was misleading - now that I'v reread it, leads one to believe he was killed. Not the case, thankfully, as I was born Dec. '52. The coolest thing is that when I was in my teens, dad had his veins stripped in his legs for varicose veins, and the doctor removed the last piece of schrapnel. I actually got to hold the nasty, jagged piece of metal that he had carried in his leg for almost 20 years, and ended his army career after 2 hitches.

God bless your Dad, and Thanks for his service to this country... My Dad died with Japanese mortar shrapnel in his arm... (many years later, unrelated) ..

A lot of us had Dads, Uncles, Aunts, etc that served in WW II or Korea. They are all remembered for their service to this country. Since then, we have all of the vets from 'Nam, Desert Storm and the current folks serving in the Middle East....God speed and hurry home.

My Dad served and was stationed At Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 aboard a DE. They had come in from patrol on December 6. He received a Purple Heart when the ship was torpedoed.
