My dad is

retiring tomorrow. He let the company know he was going to retire. The company said we don't want too see you go. The company said why don't you take a voluntary layoff.
That's what my father is doing. Taking a voluntary layoff.

Let see Voluntary Layoff--can he collect anything--does he have a pension plan--how stable is the company. I would make sure he will have some type of income.

I've done the "voluntary layoff" thing a couple of times when business was slow and I was able to collect unemployment.
