Need a boat?

In Florida where we do most of our camping you're never very far away from some body of water. We had been thinking of getting a small boat just to paddle around with, like a plastic kayak. But finding a 3-person kayak (2 adults and a 6 year old) seemed to end up with long and expensive solutions. Poking around on Amazon, we found this

Amazon.com : Coleman Big Basin(TM) 3-Person Kayak : Boating Equipment : Sports & Outdoors

Add paddles and an air pump and for less than $400 you're set. The reviews seemed very positive, so with Amazon's liberal return policy in mind we figured we'd give it a go.

Now I've never kayaked before and have nothing to compare this boat to. We were at Rainbow Springs state park which has a beautiful spring fed clear river on it. We were able to paddle from the campground against the current up to the head springs. Slower than most of the other kayaks, but we had one set of oars and 3 people in it. We had a great time, got some exercise and when we were done the boat deflated and fit in its carry bag and fit neatly in one of my basement compartments. Its very well made and sturdy and looks like it will last for a while.

Canoes are often the size you need, but kayaks are usually one or two person. I guess if you bought a couple of extra center sections (of the modular type linked below) you could make one 3 person:

Modular - Point 65n

A kayak usually uses double bladed paddles, a canoe uses single blade paddles.

We have 3 kayaks and a canoe. That wasn't enough. We bought a Sea Eagle 3 person inflatible for the MH for just the reason you stated. We carry it in one of the basement compartments. Haven't used it much yet but hope to use it on the Snake River next week, depending on water conditions.

Looks like a fun boat, perfect for three. Very nice! Small enough and use a pump?

12 v pump to quick fill and a big 2 way hand pump to finish off.
