New member to this forum with a question

I have a twelve year old, 11 ft Genesis IV, Porta Bote with a small crack at the middle seam of the transom. Has anyone ever tried "Flex Glue" or Flex Tape" (as seen on TV) to repair this.

I've tried it in a couple areas on my MH. But just the spray on or brush on and not to fix a crack. So far it's resisted the sun and rain. One area for most of the summer and it still looks good.

I keep flex tape on board all the time. I have used it for many fixes, but not a boat.

What would you guys suggest for a crack in a plastic kayak. It's above the waterline on the bow. I bought some Flex tape, but haven’t tried it yet.

Can you hear me cackling and clucking?

Anytime I'm trying to fix something that will flex when used I lean more towards the use of fiberglass cloth and resin with hardener. I'd also use it on the kayak and put a layer on both sides.

FG is strong, sun and water (proof) resistant, very durable but will flex some. You can't go wrong!!!

Flex Tape may have its place but I've never used it. I'm usually Leary based on the advertisements. In fact I'm surprised they haven't told us the Titanic wouldn't have sunk had they had some FT on board!!!

Fiberglass will work for a split on a plastic boat. If it's at a folding seam then as TB said check with the manufacturer. Or maybe that's a good place for the flex tape since it above the water line.

A porta boat is a folding boat. Folds flat for cartop transport. Don't think there is any fiberglass in It, more like plastic.

Your best bet is to contact them for the folding joint repair.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to experiment with some of the options and see what works.

Sorry, no experience with Flex Tape.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!
