The FAA has always been a little anal about "flying for hire". There's separate rules for charter operators and a separate class of medical certificate for commercial pilots. The company line is "the public expects a higher level of safety from commercial operators". In the eyes of the FAA, the general public does not know the difference between flying in an Airbus and flying in a Cessna.

In the absence of rules specific to commercial use of UAVs, the feds fall back on rules for certified aircraft. And knowing the FAA, they won't change anything unless Congress forces them to.

Guess I will be getting a commercial UAV license. Until then, I will take my chances posting my drone videos... There are thousands posted on YouTube. Already a private pilot, so my drone is flown sensibly and with the airspace regulations in mind. I hardly consider it commercial use to share our videos...never made a red cent!

And yet when I complain to the local FAA office about planes flying low over my little town, they repeatedly say "There's nothing we can do about it" even when I give them the registration number.

Last year, a plane was doing stunts over a nearby town and augered into a house killing pilot and passenger.

And now they pretend to be worried about drones? Your Tax Dollars at work!

Once they are able to start getting fees from drones like airplanes, they won't care if they are on YouTube.

As soon as Google petitions, they (FAA) will make an exception. They (Google) have captured everything else and put it on the Internet.

I don't need to go outside anymore. Just bring up the satellite imagery or Street View on my computer.

Now this is funny. A guy without a pilots license flying a drone that is not a registered aircraft, big deal.

Just the long arm of big brother strutting their stuff

Small drone operators in USA are not required to have a license or register the small drone.

We just got one and are having fun flying it around and making videos.

I have some great ideas for flying the drone and filming the motorhome while we are driving down some of the remote roads.
Needless to say, it will be a two person job.

I think the FAA is a little late, the 'cat's out of the bag.' on this one. You Tube has 53,900 videos under 'real estate videos' that give aerial views of properties for sale. Under the generic search 'drone' over 3.6 MILLION videos are posted.

The FAA has to put rules in place for drones and the have said in public it will take at least 5 years to get it done. 5 years to write a rue covering drones, makes you wonder haw long it will take the to fix the rules on a commercial air craft where hundreds of people are at risk. Only a Govt. agency can get away with this kind of horse hockey.
