Someone will re-open the plant, hire non-union workers, pay them half as much,
and not give them any benefits.
But still charge just as much for the Twinkies.

Right or wrong, it appears they had enough and stood their ground.

People who hate unions don't see the other side of the story.

We knew about this over a yr. ago. This is part of a different plan. No, the assets won't be for sale, nor the formulas sold. There were several offers made but none entertained.

The link to the article released today is attached several places above and states otherwise. Looks like things may have changed in the past year. If you like them this should be good news. If your like me I won't miss em. Just feel bad that people are outta work.

One thing most union, and non-union people do not know is; when you go on strike, whether sanctioned or not, and refuse to return, you have legally quit your job. Included in negotiations is an agreement to re-hire striking workers with full credit for longevity, and job rights with no fear of reprisal.
Striking workers who are not re-hired lose all benefits, including pension, so IMO they must make sure they make the right decision for them and their family.
Now, the other side of the story. RCA (one plant) requested and received union permission to reduce pay and benefits. One year later they closed the plant. This reduced company liability and cut costs by greatly reducing severance pay, retirement payments, and insurance costs.
Ask the teamsters why they decided to work with GM instead of striking when GM said they were going bankrupt.

There WILL be Twinkies. Hostess will sell off the parts of the company, has been looking for an excuse to do this for a while.

SOMEONE WILL MAKE TWINKIES.

Alot of mis-information about Unions here. Tell me what's wrong with getting paid decent wage, benefits , pension and have somebody helping you make sure you get what's coming to you ? Everyone I meet is jealous of what I have because of being in a Union . I just Retired after spending 37 years working my butt off building Freeway Bridges and now I'm enjoying a Union pension, I don't feel for one minute that I skated along screwing my employers because I was Union, I earned it . Have you seen the Hostess CEO got a 300% increase in pay, maybe that had some bearing on their problems... Ya think ?

The public has some blame here. The public is trying to curb its bad habits of eating to much calories and has gone health diets. Twinkies doesn't qualify and thus the profits have sagged. Who wants to buy a dying company? Selling the factory items to a bread maker maybe?

More and more good paying union jobs are being lost as time goes on. A lot of times these companies find a way to come back with minimum payed jobs. It is bad enough for these people to try and survive on minimum pay but what happens when they are to old to work anymore.
