Several months or so ago I started a thread that posed the question, would you be willing to take a cut in Social Security to save the system? Of the approximately 525 replies, there were four people who said they would take a cut. There were two who seemed intent on attacking me for some unknown reason and everyone else pretty much said cut someone else but leave me alone.

Much of what has been posted has been along the same lines. So I just wonder, what will we do when the system goes broke? Who will take care of those who can not take care of themselves? Will we still complain that the increases aren't big enough when we won't even be getting the base? I think we need to put priorities in place and see what we, collectively, can do to fix the system.

Macro Economics 101. Nobody wants their own subsidy cut. Or demonstrated versus revealed preference. Watch what they do, not what they say. I once asked my Econ Prof - how can you use the same textbook for graduate and undergrad course work. He replied, the questions don't change but the answers had better. Seems we ask the same graduate level questions repeatedly and are saddled with C- undergrad answers. We want politicians just like us - and then wonder why they can't solve problems we can barely describe.

OP here, didn't realize I would open such a bag of worms. On the other hand there have been many comments that were good and do make good sense. I would gladly give up my Medicare if I could, but the rules don't allow me too. If I refuse Medicare I lose my Military TRICARE.

Moderators, I think my thread has run enough, please feel free to close it when you want.
