O'Boy, MY SS Raise

I just got my notice of increase in my Social Security check. It was a whopping 1.7%. Ofcourse they also showed the Medicare increase. So the 1.7% COLA covered the Medicare increase and starting in Jan I will now be receiving the EXACT same amount as I have all year.

Consider yourself lucky - it could have been far worse - and may yet be...

Look at it this way.. One plan I saw would have turned the SS trust over to the General fund to offset a portion of the national debt (The portion which is OWNED by said trust) and handed you a "Voucher" so you could go out and buy insurance from Private industry.

That same plan would have also repealed the law that requires the insurance companies to ISSUE such policies.

On edit.. In fact I recall several such plans. Thankfully, to date, they have failed to swim (Sink or swim) and thus have not come to pass.

However what is the saying: Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom.. Or some such line. Next time you hear of some senator or president or _____ in Washington who is getting into the wrong set of panties (or pants) Keep a real, real close eye on congress, cause that's when WE THE PEOPLE get.. Distracted.

Oh, and least anyone thing I'm getting political.. The word "Eternal" in the quote applies, Don't matter who is in office, what party, What office.. And in fact it is also how many other things work.. Some folks make no attempt to hide the fact they are distracting you (They are called illusionists, Example Penn & Teller) The difference is P & T are giving us good value for the cost of the ticket to their show (Well I thought so and I bought the tickets) They are not giveing us the old Ben Dover & C Howit Feels law firm job.

My kids get SS since their mom died. She was a stay at home mom for all of their lives (they were 8, 10 and 12 when she died) so the raise is a whopping $4 a month. Maybe I should invest it in their college education through the lottery. :-)

One of our grandsons (the one still living with us) gets SS since his mother died. Not sure how much the "increase" is but it sure isn't enough to match inflation, no matter what the gov't says!

Dunner - been reading your posts for some time but not introduced. So hello from Steve and Annie in Texas. Now about that $40/month. I suspect your increase is based on the appreciation of items in your attic - not the COLA that others are seeing. Just my suspicion.

Enjoy!

I retired with pension @ 48, started SS @62. This years $25 SS increase is more than one of the two pension increases I have gotten over the last seventeen years. I will take what I get and not complain!

Indeed too serious - I just recall some posts some time back discussing the many treasures in your attic.

Dunner,

With a whopping raise like that, the drinks should be on you!

Actually I think I got the same thing, but I'm not buying.
