Ode to Thanksgiving

To our national birds
The American Eagle
The Thanksgiving Turkey
May one give us peace in all our states
And the other a piece for all our plates

I am looking forward to both ...the first is longer lasting - but the second tastes better!

And the first thinks so too! Here is what happened at 2008 Thanksgiving.

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. -- In 1782, Ben Franklin favored the Turkey as his choice to become the prestigious national bird of the United States. But the other founding fathers at the Second Continental Congress basically told him to go fly a kite, and voted the Bald Eagle to represent their young country instead.
226 years later, the American Eagle Foundation's celebrity bald eagle "Challenger" plans to celebrate that nearly unanimous congressional decision by enjoying some tasty organic turkey on Thanksgiving Day at his private Dollywood home in Tennessee.
