Olathe Sweet Corn Festival Today
Today is the big second day of the the Olathe (CO) Sweet Corn Festival. What is so noteworthy of that you ask? Besides having the town swell from 1,300 to about 25,000 for the day, there are numerous vendors who sell junque, food, stuff, a concert with Survivor this evening, but most importantly, FREE corn! I've had great corn all over the midwest and the rest of the country but nothing can compare with Olathe Sweet Sweet (yes, TWO Sweets) corn. They make it two ways at the festival. One is the conventional boiling and the second is what I refer to TURBO grilling where they throw the ears into a machine that grills them in a matter of seconds to a perfect look and taste. The machine sounds like a jet taking off. After the grilling or boiling, the corn goes to a bunch of volunteers who hand them out and then one can either butter them or not. They taste so good and sweet that they really don't need anything.
I didn't post this yesterday because I didn't want more darn RVers in the CG who could potentially eat some of the 5 -10 ears of corn that I intend to have! That plus funnel cake and ribs will smash my diet to smithereens! It will take me two weeks to catch up again but it will really be worth it.
