"what part of NO don't you understand - the N or the O??"

"don't eat the yellow snow"

"don't go where the puppy-dogs go"

And if I talked back to my mother, there were no words - just smacks.

He was a great guy. Firm, but reasonable. Huge amount of common sense. Made you stand on your own two feet and accept the consequences of your actions, but always there to help if needed.

I miss him.

My mom on when to water your cactus:

"You read the newspaper and when it rains in El Paso, you water it."

or:

"I wouldn't wear that to a dogfight!"

My father every night after dinner with lots of laughter... "I want you to eat every bean and pea on your plate!"
Others,
don't spit into the wind,
that's the pot calling the kettle black,
waste not, want not,
That's Yankee ingenuity,
using your head for something other then a spacer for your ears,
there is more then one way to skin a cat,
and Jim Croche's "You don't tug on Supermans cape, you don't spit into the wind, you dont pull the mask off of the ol Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim. Doo tee too dot dee dot ditty...

Not quite sure why, but cats used to come up missing a lot in my neighborhood!
My dad, close only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades and thermonuclear devices!

When one of us kids would say, "Mama, you only missed that mailbox (or other car, or dog, or cat......or whatever) by an inch, she would always answer "An inch is good as a mile!"

My Aunt Janie would say," Well, Ed, they can't get blood out of a turnip", and my Uncle Ed would respond, "No, but they can sure whip ol' Turnip"s a_ _ until he wishes he could bleed!"
