I guess I was somewhat "lucky" there. My fist one was a 1973 "fishbowl" (GMC Astro) with a shiny 290 and a 10 speed.

Back in the 40 ies when I was 14, I pumped gas, wash windsheilds, and checked oil. Also washed semi trucks. This guy brought in his brand new cab over , I took it out and close to 80, I rolled it. (totaled) If he were alive today, he would still be looking for me.

Haven't driven for over forty years. Ten wheelers mostly.
Old truckers never die, they just get a new Peterbuilt.

I got a real gas out of your video about "Hello - I'm a truck" and perhaps my video will explain why:
atruck - YouTube
This was a video inspired by the Colorado Powerstroke Club...of course it's teeny trucks next to you guys, but it's what we use to pull our fun stuff with!

Glad you enjoyed it. That's Dave Dudley and he did a lot of trucking songs.

Yep, that's the guy! I got that song after asking on another forum "what music with this video?" - too fun!
Now, back to the regularly scheduled thread:

I just found this thread, so here goes!
My first truck was a 1971 Diamond Reo, 238, 13sp., hauled road oil and asphalt. That was in the early 70's! It sure was a dog, but never let me down, and a real moneymaker! My next was a 74 GMC, 290, 10 speed, much better power, also a moneymaker! Many, many in between, and my last was a 1997 FLD120 with a extended sleeper by 4', total 118", it was leased to Landstar, and I hauled slot machines from the manufacture in Las Vegas to casino's all over the U.S. and the old ones back to Vegas. I had a 53' trailmobile logistic dry van with a lift gate set up to do that slot haul! I did that for the last 11 years of my trucking and now have been retired for a year and a half! I had a very good business and liked it very much! I am now 61, and living with my DW in Thailand. We do have a MH, and go back to the states a couple times a year, and enjoy it very much! I think there are a lot of truckers on the irv2 site, because a lot of us looked at all those beautiful MH's rolling down the highways, and thought, that looks like something I would like to do someday! I have always had a MH it seems, but just did not get to use it as much as I would have liked, so my last truck, I set up just like a MH, self contained, and liked it very much! Yes, many, many, stories! All for now, Rail!

The first tractor I drove was back in '65. I can't remember the year of it, but it was a Ward LeFrance you had to shift with both hands. I'd have to put my left arm through the steering wheel to be able to steer & shift at the same time. What an adventure.

Makes a great picture, I don't think it would work/trailer very well..........
Maybe on a straight road.......that was closed to traffic
The first truck I drove was a White w/238 Detroit.........A guy could not even hear himself think!
Looks good though!
