One Wish.....

My first wife Linda died of a brain ''annurisum'' (sp) back in 2003. She died on October 1. I had no mother, no father, no brother, no sister, no son, no daughter and no wife. To say the least, life was very hard to live because I had nothing or no one to live for. Linda's birthday was on October 31 and we always celebrated by giving treats to the kids. Linda went to great effort to assemble bags of candy and treats to give to the kids. She would arrange them in a punch bowl and we would sit on the porch and give them to the ''Trick or Treaters''. When the 31st came up I was determined to carry on the tradition of the candy bags but I just could not bring myself to make them up. On Halloween night I felt that I should do something and I decided to hand out ''dollars''. Our bank had a tradition of ordering ''fresh one dollar bills'' from the government. These dollars were in sequential order and brand new. They are in ''books'' of fifty to the book. As evening approached I got out two of these ''Books of dollars'' and went out on the steps and sat down on the bottom step. I was wearing a down vest and a Tobaggon with the ''books'' on an inside pocket of the vest. It was just before dark when the first child came down the street. She was escorted by her mom and she was beautiful. White shoes with white stockings and a little blue dress. Blond hair and blue eyes with a tiara, a magic wand with a star on top and a small set of silver wings. She carried a plastic Jack-o-Lantern in her left hand. She climbed the driveway and turned on the sidewalk and stopped right in front or me. She was probably three or four years old. She held out her Jack-o-Lantern and said ......''Twick or Tweet''......... all the time she was looking behind me and around me for my basket of candy that I was suppose to hand out to all the kids. I smiled big at her and with great gesture and a ''sweeping arm'' with my toboggan in hand I said....
'' YES YOUR MAGESTY... ''......... as I bowed low while sitting on the bottom step.........
''I AM NOT A YOUR MAGISTY,,,,,,,,,,, I AM A FAIRY PRINCESS.....TWICK OR TWEET'' She was still looking for the candy that was no where to be seen.........
'' Well now Miss Fairy Princess, Just what would you do to trick me if I do not give you a nice treat''.... I asked......
With hands on hips she stood and pondered the statement then with a firm look into my eyes this was her answer....
''I would turn you into a big, fat, toad''...................
I was busting a gut inside wanting to laugh but I held a straight face....
''Well, Miss Fairy Princess, let me see if I can come up with a ''treat'' for you because I dont want to be a Big, Fat, Toad''.... I reached in my coat pocket and brought out one of the packs of dollars and pulled off the top one and handed it to her. You would have thought that I handed her a million dollars. She stood there in front of me very wide eyed holding the new dollar bill in both hands.
''Is this a real dollar mister?''
''Yep, it sure is princess and it is all for you''.................
With much delight she turned to her mom standing down on the street and flagged the dollar bill toward her mom.......
''Look Mommie,,,,,,,,,, I got a whole dollar''
Her mom waved at me and told her daughter to do what they had practiced to do when someone gives a treat............
She turned back to me and with great determination and purpose she took her magic wand in her right hand and touched my forehead with it.

''For giving me a such a nice Tweet, I gwant you one wish that will come true''..........
I really wanted to hug her but I chose not to. She turned and ran jumping down my sidewalk and the driveway and when she got to her ''Mommie'' she showed her the dollar. The lady waved at me and so did the ''Princess'' as they went on down the street.
I managed to ''hold it together''' till they got out of sight and I came apart like a cheap watch ....... I went inside and washed my face and got myself back together and went back to the front steps thinking what ''Princess'' had said ............ One wish ............. Hummmmm?
I wished for someone to love and spend the rest of my life with and My Willa came into my life ...... We were married on July 21 at Niagara Falls and now I have reason to keep living ........
When we are home during Halloween I still hand out the new dollar bills to the kids. One year we handed out 183 dollars. That year the word ''got out'' and we had them standing in line across the lawn some of the time......

We will be home this year and we will hand out dollars again.
Strange thing,,,,,,, I have never seen the little ''Princess'' again. Not once..... and believe me I look every year.........
In closing I will tell you this....... If you ever have occasion to give a ''treat'' to a Fairy Princess and you get ''one wish''....... IT WILL COME TRUE SO DO NOT WASTE IT...........

God bless our troops and bring them home safe and very soon ....

As always, Seajay... You tell a good story with great skill ...and your reader comes away a little better person for spending some time with you.

Best wishes to you and your beloved Willa, who no doubt came to you through the granting of a wish by an "angel unaware". The definition of "angels unaware" can be found in a very old book which has sold more copies than any other book. Enough said.

Thanks for the story. Thanks also for your service which allows us to enjoy so many freedoms ...including the freedom to "assemble" on this board and speak freely.
Take care,
Jim

You guys are too kind to this old sea dog. Believe me, THAT WRITING IS REAL. IT REALLY HAPPENED and I still look for that little girl every Halloween. I failed to mention that Linda and I had been married 43 years when she died. She was always in good health and seldom went to a doctor for anything except her ''woman'' check ups. At the hospital the doctor told me that probably ten percent of us were walking around with an 'anurisem' (sp) somewhere inside our bodies and we will probably die by being hit by a truck or something else instead of it rupturing..... Such is life. I actually have one in my tummy. It is called a Triple ''A''. An ''Abdominal Aortic Anurisum (sp)''. It is 3 and a half centimeters and the ''saw bones'' checks it every six months with one of them ''sonogram'' thingies like they use on a woman when she is ''stagnant'' oops I me ''Pregnant''.....lol... So far, so good ,,,,,, it aint growing.....
Anyhow,,,,,,,,,,,, again, thanks for the kind words guys and I noticed that Wayne the Marine had something nice to say also. This worries me some because I figure he may need to borrow money or something ............lol........ Just teasing my friend Wayne the Marine.

God bless our troops and bring them home safe and very soon......
God bless our vets for their service to this great nation .....
REMEMBER 9/11..... REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED AND WHO PERPETRATED THIS AWFUL ACT UPON US ...... (I will stop now for fear of censorship)

Seejay, please be very careful with your 3xA. My FIL died when his ruptured. He knew it was there for nearly 15 years. Dr. said if he had gotten to a hospital in <1 hr, he could have survived.

From one ex sailor to another, thank you Seajay. You write a beautiful story and it took me a while to compose myself before I could reply. My Dw and I have been married 41 beautiful years. May you and Willa have many more happy years.

I told the doctor to ''lets fix the thing now'' but he said they would not touch it until it grew to 5 centimeters or bigger. They have a ''thingie'' that looks like a 'sling shot' made out of a mesh substance that they can put thru a vain in your leg and ''reinforce'' the bad place in the vain. It is checked every 6 months so no worry........
Tks for your concern........
