I recently quit a job because of the emotional stress of delivering as much as FOUR different opioid medications (Fentanyl patches and or suckers, Morphine, Norco and Percocet) to ONE patient in nursing homes. I was doing this WITHOUT pain relief of my own looking for a tree or bridge I could smash into to end my own pain while they are being kept on that waiting to die basically. (I truly don't mean to sound unsympathetic)

And for any of you on Medicare/Medicaid, the new healthplan "extension" they have brought out called UnitedHealthCare seems to be a pretty cool deal. You get billed 24.90 a month for tons of stuff but my rep says you don't have to pay it. I was told on the phone today you get up to ten accupuncture/PT visits a year, podiatrist visits and so on. I am hoping it is as good as they have made it out to be.

Insurance - the other difficult piece of this puzzle. I have a Humana Medicare advantage plan. In November they approved a 90 refill on my Fentanyl patches. When I tried to refill it in Feb they would only approve one month worth. I'm in Arizona now and the law here says I forfeit any opioids not purchased at the first visit. GRRRR!

The second issue is that I require a more expensive generic patch because of a severe allergy to the adhesive on the cheaper patches. I fought for and was granted a tier exception which will save me some $ once my $350 deductible has been met.

Ive learned to check goodrx.com to see what the best cash price is on my Duloxetine Rx. I can now buy it outright for less than half of what Humana wants me to pay as a a co-pay. Medicare part D? I consider it a donation - it sure doesn’t save me any money.

Try 10mg edible THC. Available in many forms in Colorado and California.
Did more for my c5 c6 c7 nerve impingement than opioid.

Please, tell me more! Does it mess with your head? Even if it does, I could probably take THC at night to help me get to sleep. That's when I have the most trouble now that I'm trying to reduce my Fentanyl dose. How long does the pain relief last?

Washington, Oregon and Nevada allow recreational THC, but not Arizona, where I am now. I'm headed north in about 2 weeks. I'd like to try it before going thru the hoops to get it medically.

I called my PCP's office today asking for 1 month of Butrans just to help me get thru until I can see the pain management specialist on May 21. I run out of Fentanyl before then and can’t get an appt down here.

The specialist says to have the PCP help me wean off the Fentanyl, the PCP says no more Fentanyl Rx from him - go to a pain doctor. I can see how some people are pushed into taking illicit drugs by doctors who pass the buck.

No it does not get you the high smoking it does. It's much more physical.
Can help sleep too. Just start slow. It can take from 15 minutes to 2 hours for full effect.

Be careful using any cannibus. Might conflict with some agreement you have with your pain management dr.

My Dr. found a tiny bit of it in me from some I had when I ran out of my vicodin and could not get a refill out of state. It was edible and worked well. Florida approved medical use so my Dr really didn't fuss much.

I am a 100% disabled vet and the V.A has taken my Fentanyl (75) patches and Oxycodone away from me (over 7 yesrs) and a lot of other vets. First warning it takes more than two weeks to wean off this stuff. Start now by stepping down, you will go through withdrawal symptoms. After a while of being off them I am thinking a lot more clearly still in pain but can be overcome with will power. I take mobic as my primary relief. Mostly mine over matter. PM if you need more info or support.

Being a chronic pain patient since 2006, I can say that for me and I suspect for Oknunky 10MG of THC will do absolutely NOTHING for this kind of pain. First off if you want a clear head and something that will work, a person needs to look at CBD not THC. But what do I know. Also if a person wants edible thc stay away from the pot stores, useless. You have to make your own product. Something I have done, But forget about a clear head. Okmunky, look into CBD. But you have to really grow your own to know what your getting. Or if you get the right Doctor, you might get lucky at the dispensaries, but I doubt it. The big thing with THC is it gives cancer patients an appetite.

Great point! Washington has recreational pot. I wouldn’t be bending any laws, but after I carefully read the 30 page packet they sent me, I would be violating the clinic agreement unless I had a valid MM card. That's not likely to happen being a South Dakota resident traveling from Arizona to Seattle. Grrr!

Thanks for the heads up!

<Groan> More roadblocks - I can’t take Mobic as it will give my gastric bypass altered stomach ulcers. All NSAIDs are forbidden.

I tried CBD oil in January. It gave me vertigo. It might have been mixed with coconut oil which has lately been a giving me problems. I'm a bit concerned that I might be allergic to CBD.

Back to research.

Sadly I can. Our elderly dog takes the exact same Tramadol that I do. It's a lot easier to get it for her than it is for me to get a refill. Addicts will abuse that. How long till it's almost impossible to get pain med for your pet too?

I'm surprised that wasn’t included in the most recent change in the laws - 2018 came in with some big changes.

I got a call from my southern PCP's office. He's given me 1 more month of Fentanyl which is enough to get me thru until the pain clinic appt on 5/21. WHEW! I'll continue to wean off Fentanyl, but more slowly than I have been.

Kratom? I'll try it some night after Sena is asleep. Living with an uncaged monkey requires having a clear head. Once she goes to sleep I'll have 12 hours to experiment. I'd like to have a non prescription back up.
Kratom is nasty, did nothing for my pain and has caused a couple of deaths here in Oklahoma anyway......
