Our Cat C7 Doesn't Like Us

Well dang.. Another trip...another break down..Sitting on the side of Hwy 17 near Savannah.. Just headed home to Charlotte and the engine over heats after 4 miles...Threw a belt...Waiting for the part, Star Garage says they can put it on when it gets here.. So let's see in 9 months and 9500 miles. Oil leak, blown turbo, and overheating due to a destroyed belt...Love my Gulf Stream...but starting to worry about our Cat C7 engine quality..Hope we can make it to the Rally without a problem...Maybe I'll trade it... Peace D

Seems way to early to be loosing a serpentine belt. I would be looking real hard at the tension pulley and also checking belt alignment. You may just be one of the lucky ones who got a defective belt but if it were me and they don't see anything wrong I would start carrying a spare just in case.

Don't blame the Cat, engine manufacturers do not put on belts, air filters and ect. since the end manufacturer (motorhome builder) may do things like side radiator design and they determine the location of the power steering, alternator or add other belt driven attachments.

So you are saying he needs to worry about Gulf Stream quality?

Five years and 40,000 mile with zip problems out my CAT C7. It gets serviced every year at the Freightliner Service Center in Gaffney and runs like a top in between times.

We were very lucky to have gotten a tech and belt on a Saturday...Star Garage in Hardeeville SC were great So if I get the point, when the Workhorse Chassis showed up at Gulf Stream there was no radiator or AC or belts installed I thought all chassis are the same...would love to hear some more about this. May start a new thread Anyhow AC unit is frozen, caused the belt to break. Will have it checked out this week....Thanks for the replies...And just to let you know it was just at the Cat dealer last month, and all belts were ok...Peace D
