Tis the week before leaving and while in the house,
We set by the window to plan out our route.
Our ride's in the driveway, all covered with snow.
It’s packed to the ceiling and ready to go.
Our dogs are as eager as we to be gone
They practice their walking and poop on the lawn.
We watch the weather, so not to get caught
Another bad snowstorm, our plans will be shot!
Marjie in her jamies and me in my socks
We pace the floor and stare at the clocks
We keep reading our list to see what we lack
We’re itching to travel and never look back.
At midnight each night, to bed do we go
And think of our travels, our days on the road.
Our rest is so fitful, like kids, we don’t sleep
Anticipating our trip, we don’t get a wink
Just when we thought, we no longer can wait
Another day passed and we check the date
Our day will arrive and the engine we’ll start
Shift into gear and then we’ll depart
We’ll wake to the morning of our long waited day
Jump out of bed and you’ll hear us say
"We’ll be in Florida, see ya later this year
We’ve got room for you all, just bring your own beer!"
