Pearl Harbor, not in Seattle paper.

Years ago one would see the picture of the Arizona
on the front page. There was only 2 lines in the Seattle paper that I could find.

I guess the press doesn't want to upset anyone. My dad lost some of his relatives in the Philippines by the Japanese.

Does our press and our government schools want us to forget?

Don't think so. I moved away from the Middle East (Seattle area) to the east side of Wash. state.

My views are a lot more acceptable over here.

This past September I visited Pearl Harbor, if there is to be an alinement of the American way of living I think we should start there. You read about the history, the attack, about those that died and how respectful we should be at this Memoral/Burial site.

Well respectful sure looks a lot different now days I guess. Park Rangers or Naval Personel barked orders out as they hearded people about and few memorials I've attended had gift shops. Now I'm not that far out of touch, yes some concession would be expected but the whole circus revolving around Pearl Harbor was IMO disrespectful.

How many times must a war be fought? Remembrance is a good thing, and the Seattle Times has run several articles recently in remembrance. Here's but one example:

I served as the Deputy Director of Security Assistance with the US Pacific Command in Honolulu, and in part was responsible for military relations with Japan and other Asian countries, as well as countries covering over 70% of the globe. I could see the bullet holes from the war on the walls of the offices I worked in every day I went to work. I also served at HQ US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, and worked daily with our allies.

Seems to me that forgiveness is also in order - Japan and other WWII "enemies" are now our strong supporters and partners in global security.

I can assure you that our military vigilance is stronger than ever. I salute my fellow comrades in arms. Both of my parents served in the US military during those dark days.

That said, yes, Seattle is still part of the United States, and the Seattle newspaper has remembered Pearl Harbor Day. The US flag outside my home stands at half staff in remembrance of that day so long ago.

Kind of like Texas used to celebrate San Jacinto Day, but now we do not make much of it as it might offend some of the Mexicans here.

My Dad was on a destroyer escort in the harbor on Dec 7. He was usually pretty solemn on Dec 7. I guess he was remembering some of the friends he lost that day.

We should never forget what happened on this date as you do learn from history.

I don't think it is just Seattle. Ask 10 recent high school graduates some simple history questions and you will be shocked. A great one is, "Which side was Italy on in WWII?" About 70% will say ours. They just don't seem to teach American history anymore. I had a long conversation about 10 years ago with a survivor of the Arizona, Very interesting. Our country is losing all of that knowledge and experience.

I visited the Pearl harbor Memorial several years ago. I was surprised by the number of Japanese who waited patiently in line with me to pay their respects. They were very somber and reverent.

The real question is "Which side was France on?"

I read an article a few days ago that centered on the fact Pearl Harbor Day is, in fact, fading away. I still put my Flag out for it.
