Try doing a search on the internet for the phone number they left to see what it shows.

I once received such a call and I told the caller"you already have my phone number and address, if you want any information whatsoever come see me" and hung up. I haven't had any contact since then.

BTW, the Nigerian scam started out about 30 years ago. It became the 3rd per capita income of the country. The US Secret Service had the responsibility of containing it. It was not until a few years ago that any publication of prosecution came to light.

Slimy scammers!

If the number left to call begins with a # sign I would be wary. I've been retired from the Telecom industry for some time now but I know there are test numbers that will leave your line up (after you hang up) and the called person can use your line to make other calls. It is not as much of a SCAM as it is a way to use your line to make long distance calls and you get the bill.

Like someone else said. If they want to talk to you that bad, they will call back.

Received another call today, this time I was home and answered. The caller stated that he just wanted to confirm some information. Before I could answer, he asked if I lived at address such and such? The address he stated is not my address. I told him that the address he quoted wasn't my address and of course he asked for my correct address. I refused to give it to him explaining that I could not confirm who he was and I wasn't going to give information to anyone I don't know. He immediately stated "I'm a federal agent." I stated "just like you can't see that I'm the Pope, I can't see you are who you say you are." He hesitated and then said he understood, wished me a happy new year and then hung up. Why do I get the feeling this isn't done?

Well.. Census people are NOT 'Federal Agents', they are Federal Employees..

Please, report this to the FCC and nearest FBI office.

DFR that clinched it as something on the shady side. I'd follow Midniteoyl's advice.

As Jim stated, report it. That is extremely close to impersonating a Federal Agent, and it is very much against the law.

Anytime I get a call that I do not recognize, I use this look up. The amount of scams & telemarketing calls (many of which are also scams) that we are receiving on our cellphones has increased dramatically. Between the two of us, we are getting about 15 to 25 calls per week. We are on the Do Not Call Registry
and have been for several months now. And I keep reporting them. I am no longer waiting for them to call a second time. Now I am reporting on the first call. I'm getting tired of these people using up my valuable cell phone minutes and wasting my time.
