A good friends young daughter talks real fast. One time out of frustration I told her "you talk at 78 and I listen at 33 1/3" She had no idea what I meant since she had always had CD's.

Acronyms can be a pain. I saw "BSOD" on a computer newsgroup the other day. Well, I know what BS is and OD usually means overdrive. It was an intriuguing picture. When I asked for a translation it turns out to be the "Blue Screen of Death".

Last summer we stopped in a little town Dairy Queen. Cute little teen something girl takes my order for a small soft serve cone..."$2.38 please" she says. I hand her 3 bucks. "I only have quarters, ya got any change?" I check and hand her .13 cents. She gave me her best 'lights are on, but nobody's home' look. After a few awkward moments she said 'That's not enough, I need another....uhhh... 20 cents"(head cocked and really work'n that Double Bubble). This is going to be interesting, I thought.

"No, it would be another quarter more if you give me back one of my dollars", I say. Another awkward silence... "You don't have a quarter?", she asks. "Well no, if I had a quarter I would have given it to you", I said. By this time, my soft serve has all but saturated the napkin and is running down my hand and I'm getting more frustrated by the second. She tries to hand me a dollar back and I say, "Why not give me 3 quarters and we'll call it even?" I get a roll of her baby blues and she throws the dollar at me and slams the sliding window closed. Geez!

So I ended up with a cone that cost me $2.13. Traveler's discount I suppose or it was her way to compensate me for the loss of ice cream my napkin ate while the little atom bombs went off in her head. Go figure... Bob
