A little hint on Krogers.....

Others recommend Kroger, Sam's, etc and we do fill up at Kroger when at home and would do so on the road. And, I am not sure it is worth the time and effort to get off your planned route to find those places to save a few pennies per gallon.
I figured out a way to "double-dip" I guess. I use Krogers gas almost exclusively at home since there's one right down my street, but not many while Travelling. I wait for those "4X fuel point with gift card purchase" weekends they run about once a month and then buy $300 worth or more of gas gift cards.

I use the GCs on my trips for fill-ups, and I get 1200 extra points when at home to give me the Kroger fuel discount. At 10¢ off per 100 points for up to 35 gal., That's about $40 savings.

(Actually I Triple Dip, since I charge it all on my CC, so I get bonus points for the $300 I spent also. Since I pay off my CC every month, those points are completely free!)

At home our Kroger will not give the extra points on a Kroger gift card but only on the other gift cards that they sell such as Starbucks, Outback, Chillie's, etc....

I was thinking that would work, buy Kroger gift card, run points up, go outside purchase gas, only thing was it didn't 2x or 4x the points.
