Pocket Knives

For years I have carried around a Gerber Paraframe knife. I really like the size of the knife, it's simple, small, and doesnt interfere with keys or whatever I have in my pocket. But it doesn't hold an edge. If you think about it going dull, that's enough to make it go dull. So, I would like to find something around the same size, 2.5 to 3.5 inches, but with a much better blade. What do you all like?

I'm a real fan of Kershaw. I'm not very tough on knives, but mine holds an edge quite nicely for me.

I'd suggest you read up on the various knife metals first. Then find one with the qualities you want.

Thanks. I have done quite a bit of reading on metals. I would like to have a Damascus knife, but a good quality one is a bit pricey, and usually larger than I want.

I have not been to this link yet however, so I will look it over. Really at this point just looking to see what people favor and why. For me, its mostly light use. Rarely even carving a stick. Anything heavier and ill get a bigger better knife.

+1 for Kershaw. I used to carry the Gerber Para myself but dumped it for the Kershaw Speed Safe

is the one I have carried for years.

Although discontinued, it's available here: DISCONTINUED Kershaw 4380 Double Cross

Seems to keep an edge pretty well.

An acquaintance got me hooked on this:

for sharpening. Available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Kn...nife+sharpener). I also saw a very similar design (much lower cost) at Tractor Supply. Very easy to sharpen a whole bunch of knives in a very short time.

Take care,
Stu

P.S. Free advice: Don't try to catch a falling knife.

Most useful every day carry you can get.

Stu, why not catch a falling knife? You must go into detail...

haha, anyway, last time I was in Cabela's, that sharpener is exactly what they used. I was going to buy one, just haven't yet, it's in my amazon wishlist. I am notoriously cheap, unless it comes to food, or something of quality I plan to use often. I came across a sharpener setup, I think its Russian, tsprof. I may get this instead, I have seen it several places, including the wranglerstar youtube channel. So far everyone swears by it. there was also a square tipped knife that people seem to really like, I don't recall who made it though.

Ill check out Kershaw

Thanks

I've been carrying so Spyderco Co Pilot for 26 years. Serrated serves as a money clip too.
They do not make them anymore.

I have been carrying a 2 inch Buck knife for years. It holds an edge well and has a lifetime guaranty. I had one replaced that I broke the blade on, no charge. Light weight with the nylon handle.

I've carried the same Kershaw knife everyday for 33 years now and I was a mechanic for most of them years. It's the Corral Creek which was discontinued but you can still find it.
