So, next time I can expect a Republican add for equal time? Oh, can't forget Libertarian adds.

thinking the original thought has been lost, its not for us that login...its easy to hide ads or restrict them once you are logged in as a user

if you visit the site and do not login....the ads you get are ALL OVER the place in the world of ideas, understand google is the ram rod...
but if i tell a friend to go look at irv2.com because its a great rv site
they come and look around, but haven't created an account yet.

so they READ and think hey this is ok or not ok, but then the ads get crazy
they follow you everywhere and in between posts on the same topic
many are politically charged as one can imagine this time of the silly season and then a new person goes and reads the rules of the road to be a member here and reads that political discussions are frowned upon or Deleted (i am paraphrasing), but at the same time are being hit with ad choices from google from "re-elect me "or elect me"
it may cause a person to decide to go elsewhere.
but that's just my Opinion

You don't think most of the people that sign in here or just about any other site as a visitor are not computer savvy enough to know that they are subjecting themselves to that barrage of advertisements?

OK, anyone who has real knowledge (not an opinion, thanks) please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

As I understand it, the advertisers pay Google whenever their ad gets clicked on. It's called pay per click. Therefore, I "Protest" ads that I don't like by repeatedly clicking on them. Sort of like keeping telemarketers on the phone with a phony interest in their product/service because it's costing them money to talk to you.

As we used to say in the 60's.....................

I have no problem ignoring ads I am not interested in. If I couldn't block them out, I would never watch television. I think we are a little precious if we expect a website and forum like this to also mirror our political, theological or even economic views? I come here for the help and discussion I get from other members. I do not expect to agree with everyone else views on life and everything, and I also expect that some posts however well intentioned may actually be erroneous. That is why I use my personal filter for everything I read on the Web. If someone told me to change my tires after every trip, I would check with other sources before leaping in to such an expense. That is what makes my free will so valuable. Just my two cents worth!

I haven't seen what the OP was talking about, but if I do, I'll limit my already limited time on irv2 and go elsewhere. The last thing I'm going to do is to provide support for a person to whom I am vehemently opposed.
Selling ads is how this site remains FREE for us. There are costs associated with establishing and maintaining a quality website, and I'm happy that IRV2 can recoup those costs via ads and keep this place open for business.

I agree completely, and I might "add" that I actually pay attention to the ads that come up for the logged in user. Some have been helpful in my quest for better rv-ing, while others have not.
Nothing is free, everything has a cost. How much are you willing to pay is the question that needs to be asked.

I get the little Google adds after I do a search for stuff like bird cages,or rv parts . They follow me around the forum. I have not googled any questionable sites so I don't know if there is a filter built into it.

its not just you
i was looking at new kitchen faucets for the m/h at moen and am standard...
now...not here, but other places the little picture of faucets pop up all the time, even when i opt out of ad choices and turn security on dump everything almost when i exit

some times its funny
so now if i am needing a new tool or something, i search it, then change the settings.
then dw is surfing and keeps seeing a new tool or stuff and the bug is planted

Actually, if you are to re-read the OP's question, the question is: What's wrong with this picture? Where there are ads that are about topics that are banned for discussion here? Today I saw an ad for concealed carry handgun classes. Had a picture of a big old hangun on it. Not allowed for discussion here, even though more than half (I'm betting) of the people who frequent these forums are advocates.

I don't think anyone would begrudge iRV2 for making a dime displaying ads, they don't bother me. I ignore them. But I get bothered when I see Obama fundraisers, and concealed carry ads running on this site when I have relevant experience and strong opinions about them, but I am forbade from mentioning them even when they are direcly relevant to RVing. Sorry, but I find it a bit frustrating and ridiculous.

We can't talk about this here either, but it OK to advertise it here? In this case, I was logged in, so hypocrisy isn't just for guests anymore .

Why is it so hard to understand? Google purchases blank ad space. They don't even know what the selling host's (iRV2's or anyone else's) rules are. When you see the offending message, just consider the source - if it's not iRV2, then it can't be hypocrisy (two conflicting statements or actions by the same group or individual).

If one hangs around gun forums or gun-related topics, the tracking cookies will trigger gun-related ads from Google. How exactly is that iRV2's fault?
