Politics Poll
I've had many interesting conversations that turn into political debates on IRV2. I realize the mission statement is"Supporting thoughtful exchange of knowledge, values and experience among RV enthusiasts." but I don't see that it precludes us discussing our thoughts on political items. As long as they don't turn into flame wars. I feel a separate category at the end of the Forum might work.
Do you agree that it would be an interesting addition to the Forum?

Respectfully disagree. Plenty of other places and forums to go down that rathole. Usually turns ugly, no matter how well-intentioned.

This is not the place for politics ....... I know I am right and you know you are right and we both are wrong but will not admit it. Lets leave politics in the voting booth where it belongs and not get involved with it here........
Religion is the same. LEAVE IT IN CHURCH PLEASE.....

Politics is a 'no win' topic. It just leads to bad feelings and arguments. There are numerous other forums dedicated to fighting over politics. If one truly needs the verbal fighting and name calling, go there...

Let's keep our forum focused on helping each other enjoy the RV way of live. There are plenty of places to debate politics.
Anyway, I have read some post hear that were heated enough on overnight etiquette at Wally World. (LOL)
I'm new here and appreciate all the information I have absorbed over the past several months.

I wouldn't want to add it.
I'd venture to guess that almost 100% of those on iRV2 currently agree with the RVing lifestyle, which is a good fit with our mission statement. Adding politics, which at today's standard, is at best 49% agree, 49% disagree and 1% undecided isn't a formula that will contribute anything positive to the mission statement.

With rules like this how can it be called a political discussion

Yup.
I wanted to share with you the thoughts behind our moratorium on political discussions.
We have discovered over the years that political discussions can divide a community. Even when political discussions are confined to a single part of the board, inevitably heated discussions in the politics forum spill out into other sections of the forum. It becomes toxic to the community. Political threads attract trouble light lightening - folks seem to forget their manners quickly.
We all share an interest in RVing but our political views are widely varying. There are plenty of great forums out there for political discussions but we have chosen to here at iRV2, to focus on the things we have in common, not those things that divide us. Tempting as it may be to discuss politics and a few other hot button topics, it's important to remember that we have an international membership and great diversity of opinion.
Thanks for helping us keep the forum enjoyable and welcoming for all RVers, wannabe RVers and armchair RVers.
