Powerful punctuation!

An English professor wrote the words

"A woman without her man is nothing"

on the chalkboard and asked his students to punctuate it correctly.

All of the males in the class wrote:
"A woman, without her man, is nothing."

All the females in the class wrote:
"A woman: without her, man is nothing."

Punctuation is powerful.

I wish educators would resume teaching it in school.

That is like the saying:

I didn't say he beat his wife.
I, didn't say he beat his wife. ( someone else did)
I didn't say, he beat his wife. ( I may have implied it but I didn't say it)
I didn't say HE, beat his wife. (Someone else did maybe, but I didn't say he did)
I didn't say he Beat his wife ( he might have slapped her but he didn't beat her)
I didn't say he beat HIS wife. ( maybe someone else's wife, but not his)
I didn't say he beat his WIFE. ( maybe his girlfriend but not his wife)

Depends on how you say it!

A freind of mine is addicted to drinking brake fluid, although he says he can stop anytime he wants.

Get him help before he starts to skid. Brake fluid is a gateway fluid to other fluids like automatic transmission fluid, 5W40 synthetic, 80/90 gear oil and worst of all WD40.*

Try to detox him with Minnesota Belt Dressing (Blackberry Brandy).

Good luck out there; life is full of bad brakes.

*Shamelessly plagiarized from another person who needs help

Have you read "Eats Shoots and Leaves"? Great read on the subject of punctuation & highly recommended. Not a dry read at all.

Cheers!

My BFF is a high school English teacher, so I just sent her this as a suggestion. I'd love to read it myself!
