Products I won't buy because of their ads

Pet peeve -- insulting ads and commercials. I will not buy Flonase because the commercial's tag line is "six is greater than one". Duh!

And then there are those that claim, "You deserve ..." That just adds to the younger generation's sense of entitlement. Grrrr!

Rare is the commercial that does not annoy me. Every now and then there is a clever one. Lovin my DVR. We rarely watch live TV.

Funny how this thread just popped up, we are canceling our TV services tomorrow. Need to read a few more books, learn a few more hobbies, and get up and get out more. Yes, I am afraid. Very afraid. But, no more commercials for me, well after tonight of course!

We do what Old Car Nut does and rarely watch the commercials. I don't know if we could go cold turkey on TV in general, that's how I fall asleep at night, good luck with that, it will be challenging for sure, but I'm sure much better for you. Just not watching the news would have to help anyone's blood pressure.

Hi, Mike.

Getting rid of the TV service, never said we were losing the internet, though. I am a news junky, been told by the docs at the Mayo Clinic to never read a newspaper again! Had to relearn doing crosswords on my phone. . .

Just got the first 3 seasons of "Emergency" with Gage and Desoto on blue ray. Do not worry, "Adam-12" with Milloy and Reed is next. . . No commercials here we come!

Hi Bruce, well you definitely picked the right two series to buy. I grew up watching those two shows and made me want to be an LE Officer. Those were the days. I don't know why I read the newspaper it only gets my BP pumped up, and makes my wife laugh when I make comments about what they say in the media.

I'm also a news junkie. Radio, TV and internet all a the same time. DW gave up trying to figure out how I can listen to two audio programs and read at the same time and not miss a beat, but when she talks I never hear her.

The wifey calls it my selective hearing problem. What? Huh? Did you say something, dear? Don't let them fool you, though. They got it all figured out. Now that we are only a few hours away from shutting the TV off, and getting rid of all the commercials, I wonder if that is a wifey ruse to get me to listen to her more. Rutt, roh. Now I am really afraid.

As far as commercials I won't watch or buy products from:
  1. Any that have "cutesy" stuffed animals trying to sell me something
  2. Any that assume gender roles from the 1950's
  3. Any that promote children as spokespersons
  4. Any that use beloved songs from my teens as a jingle
We recently got rid of cable, bought the Amazon Fire TV and added an antenna for local channels. We also hooked up a spare computer to use as a media center so my wife can watch her TV shows online and surf the 'net - all for less than one month's cable bill. We'll never go back to cable.

About the only TV I really watch is a car race (but that's one of those habits and probably as bad as quitting smoking). My wife uses the DVR almost exclusively for what little she watches. We have a great town library with thousands of movies and past series on DVD and do watch many of them - we like many of the British whodunits as they actually have some content you need to think about.

Commercials I can't stand - most Fiat and Chrysler automotive ads, male enhancement ads with 'sexy' women hawking the products (why the bathtubs for one brand?), kids in adult roles, most cell phone commercials, the current Budweiser products commercials and our local "HUGE" Billy Fucillo car store commercials.

Dang that's about 75% of them here!!!!!!!

I hate those ads where cars and trucks perform those stunts making it look easy, and I just know some dimwit will be out there trying it. Just gotta love the "don't try this at home" disclaimer. That is like waving a red flag in front of some people.

There are many out there that annoy me or insult my intellegence.

Six is,by the way, greater than one so that is not one of them.

But Rap/Hip-Hop "Music" will do it..As will Yoo-ho-Yoo-Ho-Ho

The upside is that might ad some chlorine to their gene pool. Just sayin'

Don't 99% of them insult our intelligence?
I especially hate the ones where men are idiots. Feel the same about the reverse. Anything that says "For Women" but it affects both genders. Any that say "You want a better ______ don't you?" Oh and fragrance ads.

Ok, wifey just canceled TV service.

Breathe deep. Relax. I am not afraid.

I wonder if there is a rehab for this. . . . . "They wanted me to go to rehab, and I said no, no, no!" OK, I will go!

Pray for me,

Bruce
