Proving how dumb I am - Math question
Okay! So I have to admit that although I passed basic college algebra and business math, my mathematical genius is missing.
I keep reading in different RV manuals about not exceeding this degree or that degree, like the refrigerator should be within 6 degrees front to back, and 3 degrees side to side. (Did I get that right) And then I read in the leveling system manual that the "Typical coach level capability is 0.3 degrees from side to side and front to rear."
So can someone equate those numbers to inches on a coach with a 242" wheelbase and overall length of 40 feet.
Engineers and math professor's most welcome to answer - please.

Try doing an internet search on "convert degrees to inches." (without the quotes.) there are some fairly intelligent people out there that seem to be dumb also. At least with some of the "answers."

Hi Wayne,
You can neglect the wheel base in this case and we'll use bumper to bumper measurements for a 40 ft MH (480� x 108").
For 6 degrees front to back would be 50.2 inches. Meaning the front bumper of the MH is 50.2 inches higher than the back bump or vice versa.
For 3 degrees side to side would be 5.6 inches. Meaning the left side bumper is 5.6 inches higher than the right side bumper or vice versa.
What this points out, for all practical purposes, is the front to rear measurement can be neglected since you will simply not be comfortable with that much deviation from level making the side to side deviation the important focus.

The answer to the 6deg portion of your question is; for every foot of horizontal run the rise is 1.261 inches, so for a 40ft run (Length) the rise is 40X1.261= 50.44in. What that means is that if your rear bumper was 50.44in higher or lower than your front bumper your fridge would still work. This also equals a 10.5 percent grade.
The 3 deg answer. Assuming your coach is 8.5 ft wide, the side to side differance could be 8.5x.6289=5.35in. .6289 being the rise over 1 foot at 3deg.
Just remember Pie R Square, not round like our mamas tought us. lol.

Ok, I read the problem wrong. If the refrigerator specs are 6 deg front to back that would mean the MH reference is side to side and the 3 deg side to side spec for the refrigerator would be a font to back reference to the MH. This assumes the refrigerator is mounted on a side wall of the MH and the side are facing the front and rear of the MH.
Therefore equating that to the MH orientation:
For 3 degrees front to back would be 25" inches. Meaning the front bumper of the MH is 25" inches higher than the back bump or vice versa.
For 6 degrees side to side would be 11" inches. Meaning the left side bumper is 11" inches higher than the right side bumper or vice versa.

You must not drive to well if you have Bumpers on the sides of you RV 
Left to right 10" front to back 25"

Since I flunked out of first grade, I just used the manufacturers recommendation that if you're comfortable walking/living in your RV, so is your fridge.
