Ok am I missing something here? Looking back I've seen post from pretty much all GC attendees, including Tom N Jan, but Jeanie and Dave where are you?

Thread seems kind of quit without you, also Ray and wife!

Imagine your own left thumb, the saw blade penetrated the thumb at the knuckle closest to the thumbnail. The blade failed to sever the thumb by about 1/4 to 1/3 of the width of his thumb.

Knuckle was rendered useless for future use. Tendons were severed. Major blood vessel was missed by a few mm. He was cleaned and sewed up on Sunday and faces surgery this coming week to deal with tendons and putting a rod in his thumb. It will no longer bend except at the base of the thumb.

Lots of pain and heavy meds until then. Probably no rehab since rehab will not help the useless tip. Your prayers would be appreciated.
That is so devastating. I can feel the helplessness and wish for the best. Makes me cringe to think about it. When I was in HS, my left thumb got smacked in machine shop with a 4# sledge. The tip of the thumb was lifted to the right, but surgery put it back in place. Not pretty, but no loss of movement.

Here's hoping for the best and he gets expert Drs.

I've talked to both of them, at different times, and they're still in Wisc with family. They currently have a boarder in the MH and I imagine that takes up a lot of time.

Do you know where those gloves have been? You may want to ask that question?

Just got good news from an admin. They are planing on letting me out of here on Saturday... after a few more physical therapy sessions/tests.

He is also wanting me to log the times I get my pain meds.

Are you able to swallow yet or will you have to deal with a feeding tube at home? I know you are ready to get out of there, but don't be too hasty if you have more healing to do.

Di--you will be so glad you had this done. I had my gall bladder removed 2 years ago laparoscopically. It was a breeze and I was up and at 'em a day after the surgery. I only had the single incision and it was entirely in my navel! (And what a relief to never have another GB attack!) Good luck and milk it for all the recovery time you can get.

Swallowing should be the same as before I went to ER. Hope I haven't forgotten.... Just need to be more aware of the potential for aspirating. Josh said they have the lowest hospital return rate.

Bad news is they may put someone else in my room. Two beds and two TVs. How does that work. Where is my hat?

It's been my experience that you never get rest in a medical facility. Somebody is always waking you up for something stupid and you can never get your pain meds when you need them. At home is where the best healing takes place.

That's true, Barb. But personally I wouldn't want to deal with a feeding tube on my own. (I panic easily...and I don't know how I'd get potato chips in there!! )
