Good one. Thanks! My folks' Honey didn't have the awning, but I guess they didn't miss it.

A while ago we had a "tell us about your name" question. Mine is because I (Sue) am a spinner of fiber into yarn and thread. Care to share yours?

Cheers!

With so much discussion of bacon lately, I began pondering that delectable pork product's universal appeal and then it struck me like a bolt of lightening. WHAT IS BACON, and what is not? Must bacon be made from pork, or are bacons with different heritages also bacon?

There is turkey bacon, lamb bacon, beef bacon, duck bacon, tofu bacon, even bacon flavored textured vegetable protein bits that looks somewhat like bacon crumbles in the dim light of a cheap restaurant salad bar. And I'm sure there are many more of which I am unaware.

My questions are thus -- What is bacon? Is there a need to declare a Mutant Certified bacon? And should we declare pork as the only true bacon, will we offend/ostracize those who, for religious or medical reasons, do not consume pork?

Your attention to this matter is requested immediately.
I must answer this in all honesty.

If the critter didn't oink in its first life then it can't be bacon in its second (cured) life.

Tortilla wrap w/ Jalapeņo cream cheese, guacamole, thinly sliced tomato and Bacon.

How did y'all celebrate such a significant day?

PS: if it didn't oink, it's only pretending.

According to Wiki it falls on 8/31 this year as it is officially the Saturday before Labor Day. No wonder we are pondering the subject! I thought you were pulling the collective leg of the mutantsive, until I looked it up.

International Bacon Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thus falls the question -- What is bacon? If you click on the bacon portal, (beneath the photo) you will see that bacon is officially defined as PORK.

I would humbly suggest that for clarity of information, all mutants from this day forward, use the term "bacon" only to indicate the delicatible substance properly made from cured pork. All imitators shall be allowed, but must be designated as such by the use of the proper 2-5 word term that indicates the substance used to create the imitation. For example: "turkey bacon" or "textured vegetable protein bits bacon" or tvpbb for short.

Now... How are we as the collective going to celebrate this auspicious day? I know we were caught unawares and only have Friday to prepare. Suggestions anyone?

DW and I will celebrate this auspicious event in style. We just so happened to have picked up 5 pounds of maple bacon for our upcoming trip which officially starts Saturday morning. We will only get as far as Ranchview Rd in Nanaimo (70 miles) but we will be visiting friends who cannot be traveling with us on this trip.

So Saturday will see us chowing down on bacon and eggs, toast and coffee and Timmy's doughnuts. Great start to the Labour Day weekend trip.

Here in Arkansas we celebrate this great event by bringing thousands of brightly dressed lovers of the HOG to a stadium along with a band and cheerleaders and watch as 11 of the wild variety (aka Razorbacks) run about this lush green pasture.

Like I said before, momma was from Arkansas. When I was a kid and we would visit my uncle would take me everywhere. Everyone would ask.

"Hows yer ma? How's yer pa? Are they here in Arkansas?

Woooooooo. Pig. Sooie!
Woooooooo. Pig. Sooie!
Woooooooo. Pig. Sooie!
Razorbacks!

And that's what bacon is made of!

Ahhhh gotcha,

No worries, I dont have a problem explaining the reason and wherefores as to why we mutated from Michigan to South Dakota. Actually if you think about it your reasons make perfect sense in a mutated way. Thank you for the explanation and carry on RVM 2

Cheers !!!

Truer words have never been spoken.
There are many fake things in the world.
Any non-pork product called "bacon" aint bacon.

Bacon, bacon, bacon.

Hey okmunky,

You ponderance of ponderances has inspired me to ponder about the purpose of bacon in its purest form, so in the glorious light of such a prize (bacon) I have to say that the only true bacon is bacon from a pig and that bacon from any other source is an imposter bacon and therefore cannot shine or bathe us in the glorious rapture of pure bacon. With that being said the DW and I will celebrate National Bacon Day, with a pound of bacon and eggs and taters with a touch of onion and garlic tossed in and perhaps a muffin or two from the toaster and of yes we cannot forget the taste and flavor of good ole columbian coffe brewed from the little brown beans of joy, does it get any better than that ?

P.S. we will also have enough bacon left over for lunch as well.

Cheers !!!!!

Ha! Oh man, we mutants are thinkers and ponderers. I've been pondering this too. Lol. I'm more than willing to change anyones Roster Residence to SD - or Where I Park It - or even What Month Is It Again. Might take a while cause we still haven't found an intern yet!

We at RVM Central are not high tech where the roster is concerned. It is maintained in my Notes in the iPhone and occasionally I forward to my laptop for good measure.

Any printed versions of the RVM Roster are always securely kept in a hermetically sealed #2 mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's porch. Ya can't be too careful with important documents! Ah Johnny Carson. We miss ya man.
