Herb I assume you stayed at Williams on 66, hard to be sure from your stealth post! Lol
Just what is there to do at the canyon that multibale day visits are needed? Hike, yeah right, I grew out of that several years back. How long does it take to stare at a hole in the ground? Seriously, how many days should I plan? Your answers will determine if I need to camp close or further out.

I can't walk far, but I can look far, and from many successive turnouts!
A sunrise, a sunset, scenery, some 1/2 mile hikes, and a grand view out my windows can entertain me for quite a while.

Well it takes one whole day to drive and stop at each view point on the south rim.... That is quick stops..... No hiking.
There were things in the visitor center, there are other things, but i can sit and just stare and ponder for an entire day at something that magnificient..... If i go back, i would take a ride down.... To look up.....

But that is me........ Kinda like watching ocean waves...... Or clouds..... Or people...... Or puppies.....

Steve,

Bryce will be much more fun after Labor Day when the kids go back to school and the crowds thin out. The weather will still be nice on 9/8 and it won't mean missing some of the best weather the Pacific Northwet has all year.

I've not stayed there, but I bought a shower at Ruby's Inn Campground. Nice place with a super friendly staff.

Can we take a vote on the dates?

So you tell the Dogpatch family we'll have more fun without them and their kind. Oh wait - you just did. Accommodating the average is always difficult. Maybe when they get back from Maui they can discuss the possibility of 8/15 and if that's out - we can adjust our date. But meeting them is a pretty high priority for me - and you can't go to Canada as I recall, or can you? It's a tentative plan for now - but I think we have a place - now let's give the Dogs at least a fighting chance. Outside as it might be. After all. Someone won the lottery...

no matter where we go and what time of year... there will be kids due to homeschooling RVe... it's just a matter of more or less... and I like most kids...so it matters not to me.

I work with kids quite a bit. I have only over many years found two or three kids I couldn't successfully deal with. Their parents are still searching for them.

Oops did I use my outside voice???

Sorry that came across wrong. It isn't about too many kids, and I wrote that post prior to reading that the Dogpatch family would be unable to attend later. It was about there being smaller crowds after Labor Day when fewer families will be vacationing. I remember enjoying Catherine's Landing more on weekdays when there were few campers other than us there. But that's just me. And if we did put it to a vote, I would only have 1 vote.

Maybe it would be better if I had asked all RVMs to fill in these blanks. "I would like to go to a GC if it was held within ____ miles of ____ (city) on these dates ___/__/2015."

I know there will never be a time or place that will please everyone and I don't expect my wishes to carry more weight than any other RVMs. The idea of 2 or more GCs each year seems VERY appealing.

In Kansas... School starts before Labor day and it still surprises me when I hear of other schools starting before as my whole life experience has been about the middle of August... it's been time to get ready and head back to school....I don't even think about that!

I tend to nuisance kids the same way I tend to nuisance dogs, cats, monkeys or birds and neighbors, Red Ryder to the rescue!

Ok I'm kidding! Possum you'll be safe!
