We went to the Colon Orchard on the East end of town and they had green tomatos. How cool is that?

Marvelous! It should look like a cantaloupe with a yellow tinge behind the net-like covering instead of the typical green of a cantaloupe -- that is if it didn't revert back to it's non-hybrid grandparent plant. I hope something doesn't get it before it's ready to pick.

For everyone else, this is from Candy Lemondrop Melon seeds that I saved and sent to Dunner. The original melon was grown about 80 miles west of him and I bought it in Seattle. It was the best melon I have ever eaten, like Honeydew with a lemon twist. In AZ they have a very long growing season.

I'm SO jealous! Great job!

Today. Antelope. A buck and his harem.

If I did not have the INSANE zoom on the camera, they would only be dots.

Instead, some pics, a bit fuzzy, from about 500 yards.

Did not have tripod along. :-(
Hand-held!

Dave, do you have actual dates yet for your Bryce Canyon ETA? I have to be in Roundup, MT around Oct 1 for 2-3 days, but with only a little backtracking, we could make Bryce on our way to FL.

I rarely backtrack, but for a mini curiosity with RVM1 AND a visit to one of my favorite places, I'll make an exception.

Transplant - age 10. But Texas came easy to me. Not until just recently has the weather come between me and Texas. Don't like the heat. Also - even the burbs have gotten too big and congested. Give me the open road and a change of weather when my clothes don't suit the climate! Envy is not a mutant trait - but I can't wait to join ya!

Sorry, no actual dates. Going to Durango first with no set time out of there. But shoot me some drop-dead dates and I will do my best.

PM if need be. This could be way cool!

Retirement age

I retired 2 days prior to my 60th birthday and 3 months after receiving a small inheritance from my Dad and stepmom's estate. I needed to quit due to back and knee issues. I'm not as well-funded as most retirees, but I LOVE my life now.

My plan is to be where I can wear only shorts and T-shirts 80% of the days and never need to turn on the A/C. So far I'm batting about a 94% success rate. I blame Global Warming/Climate Change

Ok, after much calcula-muting, I figure I could be in the Bryce Canyon area by 10/7 and have to leave by 10/15.

Hint: is NOT bacon
Oh! Last evening was Texas size Jalapenos, fully sliced, stuffed with cream cheese, butterfly cut shrimp laid on top, a piece of cheddar cheese on top of that, and then wrapped in you-know-what BACON. Baked in the oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the bacon was golden. (I Pre-cooked the bacon first.) It was so good.

Barb, thanks or the explanation. I was going to do that if you didn't.

Nothing to it. Plant seeds - water - thin.

Like I said, this one caught me by surprise, as I checked them every day. It's about the size of a 60 watt light bulb. How big are they when ripe; I still can't tell. Shoulda put a quarter on it for size comparison. Planted on Aug 6th. I just don't want to harvest them too soon. Did that to spring crop.

Giant Pumpkins not doing so well. Still growing, but kinda limp, even though I water every other day. Spring honeydew crop did ok, but due to medical reasons, then and now, everything tastes like cardboard.

Huntnski I agree...our first curiosity cannot occur without our founding members. Catherine's Landing is perfect for a curiosity.
