In 1960 I bought a 1956 Oldsmobile that I have always regretted getting rid of. Today on the far side of town lookit what I found.

Now to convince DW that I really really need another one.

We seriously need some input about towing our Jeep.

I know we are suppose to tow it 4 down..........however we bought a tandem dolly last year when in ND and now that we have packed the house up we can't find the paperwork to sell it here. We were towing our Vespa's on it too. We have come up with the solutions for the future........tow bar and going to buy a motorcycle lift once we reach TX. However we have to make sure we are going to do the right thing to get the Jeep down there safely.

We have heard and been told that if we take the driveshaft off we can transport the Jeep safely. Has anyone had any experience with this? How did that go for you or someone you know? How did you tie up the driveshaft too? It's a one time thing but can't figure out what else to do. We already have our son driving the pick up down with a huge white utility trailer of our things too.

Help.........please

Why you almost copy cat, you. In 1960 I bought (folks bought) a 1955 Oldsmobile. The radio was the sweetest thing since peanut butter. Push a long bar on one end and it would seek out the next radio station. Push it on the other end and it went the other way, of course. Did your Olds have that new technology?

Coleen, according to the 2015 towing guide the Wrangler can be towed four down. There is no need to take the driveshaft off. You will need a baseplate and towbar. Other's can make suggestions on them but I'm a Blue Ox fan myself.

If you can get to the web site: 2015 Towing Guide (FMCA)

Here is the Motorhome Magazine Towing Guide

Yes we know it can go 4 down but we have to use the tow dolly on this move. No choices as we have to get everything down to TX.

I didn't see this till we bought the goPro but we bought the Silver and hope it's right.

Well, I'm a big fan of Demco base plates and ReadyBrute Elite tow bar. I'm guessing that if Herb had a Demco he would not have sliced open that car door. Demco has very little showing in front of the bumper. Yes, I know most of Roadmaster's stuff will come off the front, but who really takes it all off?

Let the tow wars begin. It's all your fault, Colleen!

Just had an idea

I was just struck with an idea. We have a few full timers among us. Needless to say, you'al have experienced the 1) great, 2) okay for an overnight, 3) the so-so, and 4) the don't go near it campgrounds.

We know what you're driving by your posting avatar or signature.

Your assignment is to list only the campgrounds that you would recommend (by city and state) for the rest of us to enjoy. If you name it, its location, and say "overnight" or "short stay", the rest of us would feel good about driving into a previously unknown and untested campground as we travel across the United States.

If your list only gives name and location, we will assume that it's good for a short stay in a Class A. We can all survive without a sewer hook-up for a few days but we'll assume that it has water and at least 30 amp. Out-of-the-way sites are especially desirable.

Steve and Annie, Dave and Nola, Jeff and Marcia, Don and Sandee, and Barb can be a wonderful resource for "hidden gems" and other suitable campgrounds. Also some of us seasonal travelers can contribute too.

Now how do we make it possible to have all mutants to add their lists to an accessible listing of recommended campgrounds? Maybe make your list and copy and paste to a master list that accessible to all of us.

I know. I know. There are sites listing ALL SORTS OF CAMPGROUNDS but I want a list that's put together by mutants that we love and trust (not Jim Bob that's part owner in a dump of a campground).

Our tastes are similar in nature. Very few that expect paver lined streets with casitas. Few that have the ability to sit at Quartsite for 10 days "off the grid". For us "down to earth" mutants, all we need is a list (by state) of campgrounds that have been found acceptable by fellow mutants.

So if this idea has merit, let's "get er done". Helpful suggestions please.

OK just drive it onto the dolly, put the transfer case into neutral and go along 2 Down

Demco has the best base plate - dead easy to fit on the Wrangler and doesn't need that ugly cross bar sticking out front

I ran a tandem tow with our jeep now we need a transmission how ever they say if you put the transfer case and transmission both in neutral with the engine running you can put it on a tow dolly. Ask a dealer to make sure.
