Good morning mutants wherever you are! A little overcast this morning but looks like a sunny day ahead. Hope all the dads have a great day.

Not sure what we may do today. What's on your agendas, minds, and what matters... we may just chill.

Dwayne, I have been considering (as a toad) locating a '62 Ford van like the one that I once had. It was a well used telephone repair truck when I bought it. With some TLC and a year of restoration, I had a nice little utility handymans van.

In a moment of weakness, I allowed the spouse to convince me to sell my cherished van and buy something newer. Well that's all water under the bridge now, so like I was saying the urge to get another restorable small van is growing strong.

The way I envision the restoration would be to completely dismantle it, then purchase a small diesel for repowering and build it back up around that somewhat heavier engine. The question is ... do you think I should move the engine a foot or so toward the rear to take some weight off the front axle? The way the stock engine is situated, the center of mass is very close to the center line of the front axle.

Next question ... is this the type of restoration that you would be interested in taking on? No time constraints like we see on the TV reality car shop shows. Those guys are more into acting like wild animals than doing a restoration.

Do you know what the small Cummins weighs? Suggestions on transmission brand, type?

Wow... I had a good friend with the same sort with lovely green paint - 3 speed shift on the column. My first van was a 1969 Ford Super Van. It's engine was more front than the earlier ones which had the engine almost between the seats as I recall with metal engine cover. Would be an interesting project.

Just sitting here looking at my mother's day card and wondering how many other mutants got asked to join the groups kickball team? I wonder at my abilities to play shortstop though as I am a bit tall and just slightly overweight, well OK the truth be out slightly is an understatement. If the inviter knows the rules could that person e-mail them to me so I can bone up on the rules?
