Mel.....

Our overheated for years,,,, Larry tried everything, but like it was said, think by Moonrover, it turned out the fan clutch or something needed repkacing, this was after Both CW and Cummins had looked at it, worked on it several times each....

Larry had even rigged a watercooler to turn on it... Nope... And of course it was after warranty went out and in an independent garage.

Mel & Kate,
As Di mentioned, we had our fair share with the Diesel engine overheating and shutting down [derating is what the mechanics call it]. Basically, when the engine gets too hot, the system shuts down the engine so that it doesn't cook it!!!! We were able to drive days with no overheating, and then the next day, it would just heat up on us, with only a few times that I allowed it to derate [automatically shut down].

Over a period of years, I drained & flushed the coolant system several time; replaced the thermostat several times; ensured the belt was good & working; build my own water misting system that sprayed the radiator & pulled cool water thru the radiator's exterior; and I even added additional, high capacity, automotive fans to pull the mist & air thru the radiator, all to no avail. This was after the CUMMINS shop said that they couldn't find anything!!!!!!!

Having to learn the hard way, that CUMMINS knew NOTHING about the engine's external cooling system, because all of the cooling components/radiator system are put on by Freightliner [the chassis builder].

Bottom-line, since the local Freightliner was backed up, I took it to a local, Independant Truck Service Center & it took them all of 2 minutes to determine that the radiator's fan clutch had gone bad. Basically, the fan clutch is what kicks in when the thermostat/coolant reaches a certain temperature, it tells the radiator's fan to spin and spin faster until it's cooled down.

This afternoon we are going to can peaches. Yesterday when I was out milking the goat, Sugar, Bob made peach jam and a peach pie. Can you tell we're having a good peach year? 2 trees are almost more than we need. Not every year is successful as late frost gets the blooms probably every 1 out of 3 years. ( yup...things are just peachy!)

Good morning mutants near and not so near! AZ time zone is something we're unaccustomed to. Dark around 8 pm and daylight and who knows when. The sun was up and so were we at 6 am. I had forgotten there was a 6 am....

A little sighseeing today and on to Kingman tomorrow for two nights. Hard to believe that with CR-V Mutants 3 week repair delay, and the extended stay in Pueblo for health reasons - we will still meet Annies sister, her husband and the girls in Vegas 2 days behind original schedule. It's meant moving more often than we'd like with 2 to 3 night stops along the way where full weeks were initially planned. Plan - what's that... hey look. Squirrel.

Should hear from the Pueblo doc on a referral in Vegas to handle my unknown, unusual cell activity, and highly annoying skin cancer. Geesh.

Then we're off to Bryce to mutate in style with our sisters and brothers on the rainbow. It's so close I can almost feel my ears pop!

I hope that you make peach preserves; there's nothing like peach preserves for dessert in the winter.

Lol. Who doesn't love peaches... we have pondered many a food item - and debated the merits of okra prepared numerous ways. But peaches... yum. Ice cream - cobbler - fresh off the tree - sign me up.

As for the goat. Leave em where he stands. You and Bob go it alone.

We have a dehydrator, and use our peaches to make raspberry/peach fruit leather. It's nom nom and great for camping, hiking and desserts. We have to add a little citric acid to keep it from turning brown, but otherwise it's just fruit.

Love fruit leather. Apricot is a favorite. But again... who doesn't love peaches. Any style!

Wow. If Larry can't fix it, then it can't be fixed. That man of yours is a mechanical genius! I can hang ceiling fans and install light fixtures and figure out fixes on some things, but engines, chasses and the like are waaaaaay outta my wheelhouse!

Can't wait to see yall again somewhere on the rainbow!

You spoke to an attorney on the phone ?? You are going to get a bill for $25/minute !! I'm afraid to even say "Hi" to my legal beagle when we cross paths in the grocery store. Knowing from experience that I could see the billing show up in the mail with a detailed listing of charges.
