Hey all you Bryce bound mutants!
After my trip to Bryce last Spring I started researching why I had trouble breathing at 8,000 ft above sea level. It seems that some people, including me, are more affected by the reduced amount of oxygen in the air at higher altitudes.
They call it altitude sickness and it can be LIFE THREATENING. I hope all of you will go to the webpage below and learn the danger signs. Ruby's is at about 8,000 ft but there are viewpoints in the park above 9,000 ft. I want all of you to stay safe and be at future GCs!
Altitude.org | Altitude Sickness
I also found that you can buy canned oxygen, also known as recreational oxygen, without a prescription for about $12 at many outdoor recreation stores and online. I got some on eBay.

I know Steve. You consider a slow roll and better way to go. Crossing the midsection of America to see very big hills is more enticing than back roads America for this first week of our liberation from "dead motor home hell".
See you on Friday, the 14th. Can't wait to see all of you.

Steve, you should have stopped by. We may very well be in grand junction Thursday also. Keep in touch!!!!)

And the O in H20 is for Oxygen. That's why we're picking up a bunch on Wednesday.
We have been as high as 7k and bit recently without issue. And Sandia in Abq is 10.3k so Tim and Mary should be fine.
I wish Carter would check in. He knows a bunch about this forat hand from spending so much time in Gunnison. When we talked back in July - he indicated the speed of the climb has a lot to do with it - just as the article points out. Working your way up slowly is most likely the mutant way.
Thanks for the info Barb. I talked to Ed the other day and Jackie has had a problem before. I think they are going to aclimitize a bit along the way.

Years back when I went to Denver for a conference, the taxi driver kept trying to impress upon those of us in the cab from the airport that drinks will impact us more than normal due to the elevation. So that just means it's a lot cheaper to get to the proper state of mind!

Thanks, had been looking and everywhere it was ,'need a doc's prescription' which meant another trip to the doc in an already too crowded prep week for our trip.
