cable, internet, wifi

I think we have come to a decision on our needs for cable, internet, and wifi come January 1.

Through A T & T we have a hot spot device. We travel with 12 G per month now. Come January, we will increase that to 25 or 30 G and see how our usage goes during the month. BTW - TV networks we want to watch are available on our computers and ipad4 (HGTV, ESPN, NBCsports, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, History, etc.) So. . . . we'll watch TV on those devices when we want to.

Internet is part of the hot spot usage program.

This plan our ours works because the RV park has NO Landlines capable of supplying the service and setting up 3 month of satellite dish service is next to impossible. A 2 year service plan makes no sense for us since we have that already at the S & B in Indiana.

What say you???

Each hour of streaming or downloading video is about 1Gb of data. Maybe you need to change RV parks, instead?

Unless you can go somewhere that data use is free (public library) to download shows and movies to your iPad then take it home to watch I think you will be spending megabucks.

Cable isn't an option? My concern with your plan is how strong a signal you can get. If it's strong, the streaming will work fine, if not, it could be spotty. Agree with others about usage as well, you will likely exceed your data limit if it's only 20-30 GB.

In FL, I have cable setup so bandwidth and data volume doesn't matter. The RV park was setup for this so it wasn't a big deal to have cable/internet installed for each site.

One other thought - over the air is out of the question?

Say me: I hve AT&T 30gb and whatever is not used rolls over to the next month not to exceed 60gb. Since you have an iPad, and if you don't want to watch on a small screen, invest in AppleTV. You do not need to have a router to use "Airplay" and stream to the TV using the AppleTV. You can Mirror your iPad and watch anything you can see on the iPad on the TV. Works great. If you have DISH Network you can add a satellite receiver, pay as you go, for $7 a month more added to your S&B bill. With DISH, and the new Winegard Anser antenna (portable) you can have all the channels including HD. With the 211K there is a USB port on the back and for a one time fee of $40 you can add a 2TB portable hard drive and record programs when you are interacting with us Mutants.

Earlene acquired an iPad when the first came out and is grandfathered for unlimited bandwidth for $30 a month. Our hotspot is the AT&T MiFi, but I only use it for the MacBook Pro, or updating our phones.

That's one way, but I think it's less to just buy the HDMI cable adapter for an iPad and plug it directly into the TV. A lot less hassle and does the same thing.

BTW, I have an Apple TV as well, but I find it easier to just plug the iPad directly into the TV. Fewer moving parts if you know what I mean.

Yes, if you want to dedicate one device. I'm AppleTV as I can stream from Earlene's iPad or iPhone or my iPhone without connecting wires. If just an occasional movie then your way is great.

I'm in the middle, Marty.
Not much TV, cable maybe, maybe antenna, maybe DVD, often....nothing!
Pondering and conjuring are blessings....sometimes disguised as conspiracies, but always entertaining!
Sanity you have, Marty. But I love your preserves!
