Well said, Papaw Steve! It is remarkable how well others seem to manage without our invaluable assistance.

We were reluctant to retire due to many real and many imagined negative aspects of no longer working, no longer contributing to the "groups" effort, and no longer having an income that's generated by our 40+ hours of labor.

The "group" will survive without you, new activities will fill your day, and your income level WILL be sufficient to sustain your chosen life style if you've given it proper thought (AKA pondering).

If your consternation is centered around the "ginormous" loss that will be felt at your place of employment with your departure, let me give you a "visual" to help calm your worst fears. Step 1 - fill a 2 gallon bucket with water, Step 2 - make a fist and plunge your hand into the bucket, Step 3 - remove your fist from the bucket, and the Result is . . . . the size of the hole remaining in the water is the amount that you will be missed at your place of employment in about 6 - 12 months (give or take 3 months).

Leave on your terms and know that it's the right decision. Don't look back. Enjoy the rainbow for the rest of your life unencumbered by w*&k.

I know that in my case, I was indispensable. For about 2 weeks.
Well said Oh Lucid One!
I called one of my former coworkers and assistants the other day. Just as I had assumed, the place was still there! She told me - I am so happy for you two. She said - I was there with you as you worked the retirement ropes, figured out what you wanted to do - and by gum ya did it! How great is that!! So many people say they are going to do this and that and never do.

Obviously retiring and going full time isn't for everyone. But w**king is made more meaningful if it is a means to something down the road that isn't w**k. Whatever that something is - it's the reward for giving your blood, sweat and tears for years and years... find it and have fun!

Our GD is about to be a published illustrator

We just got news that our GD, Grace, is about to realize a dream that has been 2+ years in the making.

A family friend wrote a children's book and she asked Grace to illustrate the book. After 2+ years of work, Grace completed 20+ illustrations for the book. The book is now at the publisher and a book signing party will be held in November or early December.

Attached is the book's front cover. I would have chosen one of her best illustrations for the cover, but this one is still good for a 14 or 15 yo. I don't know when she drew this particular illustration. All illustrations are color pencil. Originals were usually approximately 16 x 12.

Her grandmother and I had tears in our eyes when we realized that her dream was coming true.

Oh, a picture of Grace Kelly, published illustrator

Good looking like her maternal grandfather. . . .

Also, tonight we're going to see her in "Legally Blonde 2, The Musical". It opened last night and runs thru the weekend. She previously was in "Jungle Book, The musical". Acting and play production opportunities are provided by Christian Youth Theatre (CYT). It's nationwide I think.

She is aptly named and off to a great start. May all her dreams come true. Maybe she too will marry a prince.

It's comforting to see these 2 talented young ladies who will be helping to shape our country's future. Remember most of us are just yesterday's news. Our future is in their hands.

Arrived at a fairly new CG in Adairsville, GA. Harvest Moon is in pretty good shape and I am glad I made my reservations over 6 weeks ago! They have turned away 9 people at the office and several others on the phone today!

Tomorrow we head out to Macon, GA to spend a few days. That is where my ex-wife live. Sandee and my Ex-wife have become BFFs! (I bet that breaks the internet!)
