Carl, I went simple. Quality solar with pull chains. They beat the boogers out of motors. $482 out the door for 5 windows. 90% UV. From Bali. Home Depot. Lots of choices.
It's all about measuring and triple checking. They trim it while you wait.

Thanks Dave. I've been hemming and hawing between going the route you went (big box) or the RV-$$$ route. I'll have to look at what HD has more seriously now, especially telling me they trim it right then and there. It looks so clean what you have, well done!

And my reason for motors (need 3) is because I can't really reach them due to the bird houses and table being in the way. I do it by moving the table every time, but it gets real old real fast doing that twice a day when in a campground.

Carl, I shopped hard on-line and in-store. When I can see and feel it, the visions of a finished product come easier to me. We looked at day/nite pleated stuff, then realized we didn't use the day side, and the nite side was better as UV stuff.
Our pull chain is on the side and a bit below the blind. Maybe will work?
My neighbor put $6500 in his MCDs, and the motors die a lot. I will grant that MCDs are really neat. We did it for $482 out the door. My labor.
Don't forget Lowes and Blinds.com looked pretty nift too.
Welcome to playing your own crap shoot, Bro!

Carl... what's in the Newmar now?

We went with MCD. It is an expense - but our storage place was 9 miles from their shop in McKinney, Tx. (^^ redundant I know as I have told this before).

I got in on a sale - House shades were 30% off if you gave them your old ones. So we did. I was surprised that they just tossed the old accordion shades in the dumpster. Shouldn't have been surprised I guess cause I had wanted to do that more than once myself.

We then went back and had the cockpit done before going full time. The windshield shades are motorized but all others are manual. They can motorize all of them, give you remotes - etc. Again pricy. But we like them.

It's nice to have the big window match the house windows. I never really liked the original setup - the 2 black, motorized shades and heavy side curtains. The side curtain on the drivers side made me feel like someone was looking over my shoulder when cruising down the road. :what:

Carl, there are lots of decision points ahead of you, as it is on all RV projects.
All good points Steve. Your MCDs are gorgeous

Thanks Dave - so far they work. The windshield motors have only been in use about a year. Hopefully they don't give out.

Thanks again Dave. MCD's are in fact nice, but as noted, the price can climb pretty quickly, especially when adding motors/remotes.

I put a motorized shade behind Mac's big house at the S&B because there's no way to reach it. It lasted a couple of years. Even if the three I need to motorize lasted a short time, as long as replacement costs weren't outrageous, I would still deal with it. My arms are just not long enough to reach all the way where the shades are, even with pull-cords or what have you.

Right now I still have the original accordion type. They're getting up there in age and I'm not a big fan of them. Just starting to narrow down what I'm going to go with. I know a lot of folks have made similar choices (with good results) to what Dave did, I'm leaning in that direction as well.

I'm in no rush as this coming Thursday I'm off to FL to keep a place in the sun for the winter months. Maybe right after the holidays I'll look into doing this as I'm taking some time off to spend down south. Be a good project to tackle.

Papa Steve

I have a fire pit I will be bringing.

If you have a list of wants and needs please post it as I am sure we can bring stuff to the party to help out.

Does anyone know if i can bring fresh Salmon frozen in dry ice across the border? If i have to bring a couple two three salmon unfrozen I can always pack our large cooler with the fish and load it with cubes and replace as it melts on the way down.

That is assuming you lot would eat them, I have a BBQ to cook em on and I can find a supply of Fresh in January before I leave. If all that fails I could bring smoked or candied salmon for you enjoyment.
