I was hesitant to post anything about this. Talking about Scott leaves me with such a wide array of emotions and memories and most are not comforting. Nothing was ever easy between me and Scott. I guess that is the lot of many step parents.

So...

As Sandee posted on her FB, we learned that Sandeeís son Scott passed away yesterday at the age of 30. Scott had so many challenges it wasnít fair. Even when he was a teenager we feared the path he chose wouldnít allow him to get past his 18th birthday. It was that bad and sad.

A few of you might know the trials Sandee and I faced with Scott. It wasnít easy. At times it was extremely tough and too often it was ugly. I wish we could say we fought the fight to the bitter end with Scott but that was not to be. Several years ago we were forced to separate ourselves from Scott because his demons were in control of him and at times we were in fear of him.

Scott was faced with many challenges from the beginning. We believe most of his early problems stemmed from mental illness which to this day is yet to be properly diagnosed and addressed in todayís health care system. This led to substance abuse and the problems associated with that. Then a few years ago he suffered traumatic brain injury from a vehicle accident that nearly killed him.

We wish we could have found a key to unlock him from the dark room he often found himself in. Alas, no one could. Not Sandee, me or his father Charlie. We are left with that profound question of what else could we have done or should have done differently. Even with hindsight we donít really know if we could have done anything to help Scott find a better way but we just donít know the answer to that question. We did what we could with what we knew at the time.

We donít have any words of wisdom to express beyond the usual of trying to love your children and support them. Some of you may understand the trials we went through either out of personal experience or the experiences of others. Many will not personally understand the pain this can bring to a family and we are glad you didnít go through it.

So, we are left with the hope that in his passing there is a light on the other side that shines bright on him. We hope the light banishes the darkness he was so often shrouded in, takes away all of his pain and gives him the joys of peace he was robbed of in this life.

You did good. It was just a process I needed to go through before going "public".

Thanks for your kindness.

Don and Sandee, I cannot fathom your pain in this loss. We can only send condolences on what happened and deep Ohmms from our heart to help you through the process. In our extended family we feel the pain very well. I too wish there were more we can do to ease your pain. Love and Ohms from our house to yours. We know the pain.

Sandee and Don, a thousand Ohmmms and hugs for you both. If only our words could heal your hearts. I don't know of your beliefs, but in mine people like Scott with such tortured souls are called home in order to fix what has been broken here on earth. I know that he is now healthy, happy and at peace.

May your loss get easier to shoulder each and every day.

Update for gathering in AZ February 1 - 7

We now have 15 mutants that want a site amongst fellow mutants. We have one mutant that will be "commuting" from a nearby campground.

The various contact persons at the campground finally figured out that we have 15 sites in the same area of the fairgrounds. So . . . . hence forth, we have been told, 3 or 4 other sites in the fairground will be held for additional attendees. Not the best arrangement for late committing mutants but better than being shut out.

We were fortunate to locate a park in Arizona in the winter that can accommodate a fairly large group such as ours. Somewhere else in the same park isn't too bad.

Word will spread each day as to what is happening at "mutant central" so the satellite campers can come over. I for one will gladly be a "day host" for mutants that need a place to call home (kitchen, bathroom, and tv) during the day. I'm sure others will join me in opening their sites for this endeavor.

PM me for more details. Also, I now need a good email address for Richard and Ann. Recent emails have come back to me as undelivered.
