Welcome!

It was last April 24.
Every 3rd vehicle on the road there has a boat behind it, and many more already in the lake. I figgered it was for a good reason!

Finally, some vegetarian food! Shrooms, corn, okra, onion rings, hush puppies! And barbequed TOFU!!!

I wish I could make it, too. Sounds like a great time. Unfortunately, I have that ugly W word to deal with.

Lemon Drop Melon from Barb's seeds.
They actually have better flavor at room temperature. It sure looks like what I bought and OH, was it ever good. They are Kandy Lemon Drop melons and they are like a cantaloupe with a yummy lemon flavor.

Dunner, do you remember when I sent you those seeds? I'd like to bring some to the GC@CL if they're available. But I think I bought them in June.

Kandy Lemondrop Melons From Martori Farms Available Now | Shelby Report

Sorry Muteys, it looks like mid-July before these are ready.

X2! I like mine cold also, or the very least room temperature. Had a couple I knew who liked to microwave theirs to warm them up before eating....

Barb,

Letter is post marked 01 AUG, 2013. I planted them the same day I got them. Took ~90 days from planting to harvest. Some of those days were over 115.

Are you saying you need some seeds? I only planted 3 and 2 came up. I still have 60 seeds. How many do you need? And what about the fruits I'm about to harvest? Do you want some of those seeds? I usually like my melons with salt.

Don't forget this site you sent to me.

Lemon Drop Melon Information and Facts

One of the comments says it is nothing like the main page, saying they are not tart.

"Comments : Super sweet (unlike description - so sweet I thought it must be artificial or GMO until I looked it up). Flesh is wonderful consistency and texture. Perfect for cooling off on a hot, humid, SD-summer day!"

Barb,

Do you think the one is ready to harvest? The stem is not shrinking at the base of the fruit The other big one still has green leaves near it. I also have another one that is tennis ball size and growing very slowly. Must sense the colder weather. I think I have a grape sized one.

I just went and gave the stem a firm sideway push and unlike one site I found, it is not shriveled up and will not pop right off. Don't want to harvest to soon. Did that to my cantaloupes.

I don't need any seeds yet, Dunner. No place to grow them since I'm staying in the Pacific Northwet this winter. I was hoping I could buy some to take to Arkansas next April. But that's a no go.

Patience, grass hopper. I think the stem needs to shrivel. Then wait until there's a lemon or cantaloupe smell when the stem end is sniffed before you cut into them. Nothing is more tasteless than an under-ripe melon.

It is rather quiet on the Rainbow right now.

The RVMs have cocooned? Sequestered themselves? Gone to (deep inhale) bed?

Okay. Cool.
Thats about it for now.
