Today marks 72 years since the D-Day invasion.

My thanks go out to all who had family members taking part in that landing. I had two Uncles involved in that landing.

Thank you.

From Earlene:

Yesterday in the high desert, we could listen to scrub jays scratch in the gravel and smell wild rosemary growing on the berm. Today, at the beach at Camp Pendleton, we have amtracks and the scent of diesel plus 89 campfires burning who knows what. Ah, but we traded 99 degree days for highs of 71˚.

It's amazing it's been so long but I often wonder just how many veterans that experienced that are still alive...

My mind doesn't enable me to imagine the angst I think I would be feeling if I was in a landing craft and the ramp is about to drop open. Normandy, Tarawa, and the like had to be hell on earth for those brave men.

God bless the men and women who served and still serve our country to safeguard our freedom.

RVMs - - when eating your breakfast or lunch and you see a veteran (they often proudly wear hats or jackets) walk to their table and give them a ten dollar bill. Thank them for their service and tell them that you're honored to buy their meal.

Hello All,

And to our Mutant Veterans, and all Veterans past, currently and to come thank you so much. We have landed in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for a short stay, then for some service to the coach, nothing serious just oil and filters and this and that, then on to Michigan to enjoy family.

Cheers !!!

Yes, another D-Day.
I envision my Uncle Jim, USN boat pilot, having 3 Higgins landing crafts shot out from under him and being rescued and finally landing the 4th boat, and never getting a scratch on him.....except his scarred mind. He would never talk about it.
I salute them all.

Today was finally sunshine, low 80s, pleasant breeze, and a 3 hour drive on roads mostly new to us in Lancaster County.
"Senior Lunch" (samples at Kitchen Kettle Village) was devine.
Sorry, no pics. Your bait to come here is the above words, and perhaps some comments from Earlene and Wayne (official Lancaster County veteran gawkers and snarfers)

Lancaster County, let me guess 1,500 square miles. Only explanation I can come up with for so many roads mostly new to you... that or ya didn't get out much???

Not enough outings when w&@king, fer sher!
After WWII, PA had extra funds to use or lose, so they paved every road in the state. Literally!
We now explore more of them within 90 minutes (each way) in all directions. All slow cruising. Pure enjoyment!
Red goes willingly but we can tell he prefers dust.

About 8 - 10. I heard beige can help you look like a marathon runner. In my case, it worked to make me look like a shot putter.

All in favor of a beige party?
And speaking of the buttons you and I popped, tshirts are necessary, Steve! Any scouts eyeing your GS?
