I think we all started something like that. Mine was a fort from blankets and sofa cushions in the living room. When mom got tired of me messing up the house, I GOT graduated to a couple old blankets tossed over the clothesline.

However you did it, it seems to have stuck with many of us. In my case at least, it was a slow progression from blankets, to tents, to cars/motorcycles, small trailers, to 5ers, to MHs. It's been a grand journey. I'm sure there is a final destination somewhere, but I'm in no hurry to get there.

Good choice, you'll like it there. Nice dog park for puppy.

Wayne thanks!!! They seem really nice and we got the 2nd to last spot available for that weekend. Looks like it will be close to a lot of things - I am not going to the race........but I will take the Jeep and go exploring instead. Looks like there Farmer's Market is open on Sunday even then. So will check it out and a few other places too.

I totally agree, that's what I love about camping, with the right attitude, everyone is equal as we're all just there to enjoy.

My older brother and I used to tent camp during winter on weekends while we were out trapping. We would put the tent up in a great location that was sure to get deep snow and then after a few snow storms we would go out to set traps and stay overnight in the snow covered tent. Be surprised how warm a tent can be in winter when there is a small catalytic heater left going for a couple of hours when you first get there. The downside was the Coleman lantern was needed almost constantly as if it wasn't a super sunny day you couldn't see worth beans. Still have fond memories of that style of camping even though it was a necessity way back when as we were helping with the household expenses.

The really nice thing was we setup and provisioned in September and when we got back to the tent in January, the Colman Stove, lantern and heater along with our sleeping bags and canned goods were all still there untouched. Like Wayne says, "Oh the good old days."

Especially camping with a group with the right attitude, and where everyone is equal. Mutantdom perfection.

I used to beg for blankets over the clothesline. Boy did it get hot in there! That was in So. Cal, daytimes, pre-age 8.

Post-age 9 or 10, in IL in the country, I would take a sleeping bag, flashlight, and dog out to overnight in the front yard. The dog always deserted me sometime in the night, 😔 and occasionally a rain would bring me reluctantly straggling in.

In my family, it wasn't mutant behavior at all. Maybe we were all mutants already. 😉
