Forgot to say, Martin spotted this critter atop our transformer pole tonight: Click image for larger version

It's a long eared owl. Looks a lot like a Persian cat when those ear tufts are up, and it's squall sounds like it could give Mac a run for his vocal money. You'd think he'd scare his prey to death!

She actually sounds like a proper owl. This one ... no way! 😲

I lied. It was a Great Horned Owl, similar to the Long Eared but rounder. Tried & failed to get an audio file to share. Sorry.

"Spotted owl" indeed! 😆

Back in the late 80's, early 90's, somewhere around there, when the spotted owl was in the news and logging was being shut down to save it. I used to fish the Pit River around Burney, CA. Burney was one of the areas that logging was being shut down. Driving up one Friday evening, I was following an empty logging truck up 299E. A bumper sticker on the back of the truck read; Due to the shortage of wood and paper products, wipe your a-- on a spotted owl. I still chuckle whenever someone mentions a spotted owl.

Ya know, according to Cornell, those spotted owls populations are still declining...

WEll, since I had a plethora of Habaneros left from the market, I tried my hand tonight at making hab Hot Sauce... it was really hot! I didn't want to take the time to slice them, deseed and membrane them all, so I took the stems off and cooked them whole, then sent them through the Squeezo strainer. I added salt, a little sugar, vinegar, lime juice, carrots, garlic, and onions like the recipes all called for. So I ended up with 2.5 pints from probably a 3/4th of a peck basket size.I'm guessing. I didn't weight them, and am trying to imagine how many of those baskets would fill a bushel. Then, I had another basjet of larger cherry tomatoes the same size basket, ran them through the squeezo without cleaning out the habanero pulp and ended up with a spicy tomato juice I canned from that and got 2 quarts + a half pint. Much relieved to get them processed into something useable. Let that stuff sit around too long and you get gnats pestering you. I'll have my son who lives in the basement that is into really hot stuff taste test it tomorrow and give me his assesment. I can always take the lids off, pour it into a pot, amend it, and reprocess it. I suspect it may want more carrots, lime juice, garlic, and onions in it. All I really could tell was it burned. (actually Steve.... it reminded me of how hot those chicharrones were... without the fat and crunch.maybe a bit hotter... or my memory has faded)

The picture is funny, but only 10% of the hysterics. Watching Wayne do his unicorn "dance" had us all rolling in the aisles.

Y'all have to come to a GC to see what true maniacs most RVMs happen to be.
