Hey Dunner,

I wasn't sure that was a question about the melons. I thought it might have been your Ambien talking My best suggestion is to throw a sheet of clear plastic over them. They seemed to like the heat last summer and the plastic will help them stay warmer. Marty has a bunch more experience gardening than I do, you should maybe check with her.

On the water softener -- I went ahead and ordered one from Amazon Warehouse deals. It's an open box unit that somebody returned -- guaranteed and 20% off. I want to
protect the systems I have and water from who knows where needs little help. Does anyone know where the holding tank and city water systems come together? I'm thinking somewhere near the water heater. That seems like the best place to tie the water softener into the system.

Barb...just remember softner doesn't filter or clean the water. It might add sodium unless you have the kind that will pull that out and you will need to replace some minerals to help keep your bones/ teeth strong.

Very sad...

Hello, mutants:

We took the MH out today for a drive to exercise her legs, and oh, my. We just wanted to keep going and going. Any direction but north! We may get snow showers this week, and all we want to do is go camping. This working for a living thing is interfering with the camping thing.

I guess we'll just spend the winter planning our spring, summer and fall adventures for next year. I'm grateful we have jobs.

Right now, I'm planning the Thanksgiving Vegetarian Feast. We will be having farro risotto with butternut squash and winter greens and a caramelized onion tart.

Too late Barb. Check your email. R.I.P. Lemon Drop melons. Hopefully a spring crop will do better than a "Heat of the Summer" crop. I think it was 115s the day I planted them. They got big real fast, then stopped growing. Maybe the cold snap (highs only in the 70s) stunted them. They looked like lime tinted cantaloupe, but don't taste like cantaloupe.

Going to be in the high 80s, low 90 here next week.

Wayne- Good Job! giving away your hard earned catch was a dandy thing to do, and it leaves you feeling so fine. As for finding all the lost weight, my DH found nearly all mine this year after he quit smoking.
Dunner you just gotta do what ever works for you, just the fact that you're truly ready is a fine start! No one can quit that nasty habit if they aren't ready.
I had a health scare nearly a year ago and the Dr. said he would take me off the meds if I would lose 25 lbs. well I lost 35 (found by DH) but the lying Dr. just cut the dosage, on my Lipitor (generic). My ldl is at 41 presently but he insists I continue with med. You just never know what the medical practitioners are going to dictate.

This means she may not have to have a separate operation.

The next 24 hrs are the critical ones, but the doctor is confident of success.

That is GREAT news.

Our continued thoughts and prayers for her, you and all your family.

I have been sorta wanting to quit for a long time because I am about the only one in our group that smokes. One day, I put a barely smoked cigarette back in the pack and when I went to light one later, the whole pack smelled like I probably smelled like after a day of smoking. Moved the pack, lighter and tray out of sight. I need to not think or talk about it, so stop it, dag nnnnab-bit.

We just found the picture you posted.

Your Mom looks great for coming through that operation.
She has a lot more color and looks like she is recovering
better than the DW did last year after her open heart surgery.
We pray the recovery continues.

Mom Update,

Well, she's doing way better today. Getting her colour back. Doctor actually made her blush today! Eating 3 meals a day. Going for 4 short walks out in the corridor. Things are lookin good.

I fly home tomorrow feeling good of the outcome.

My sister (bless her heart) is staying on to look after Mom for the next several weeks once she is out of the hospital.

I have an Everpure water filter on the cold water on the kitchen sink and we drink bottled water on the road to keep the coach weight down. I'm hoping that everything that water goes thru will last longer with softer water.

The softener is one of these

Judy,

I truly believe that the best health comes from a good partnership with your doctor. They are human and not always the best judge for what is right for you. If he isn't someone you can trust, he might not be the best choice for you. Long gone are the days when we blindly do whatever the Dr says. Too many get all their drug info from drug reps whose aim it is to sell more drugs. I bet he wishes his LDL was 41

Attention Mutants - the first pass at a real website for RVMs has been posted. Note: This is not a Bulletin Board or a substitute for the way RVMs communicate now. The intent is to enable forms - for gathering info that get lost in the many pages of this this tread or emails.

By collecting the info through the site - establishing focused email lists - such as GC @ CL or RVMs (group blast) etc - we can coordinate our curiosities - and share info that we do not want published in the open forum - like special boondocking sites etc. Things we discussed with the first Newsletter.

I have also linked iRV2 and this thread as the way into the RVMdom. This is our home - where we meet and gather. The website is intended to simplify making things the GC @ CL - adopting a logo, and so on easier.

I have other pages in the works - am still learning the rope-lights of the web design package - and anticipate the site will mutate in various ways as I learn more and you provide your input.

I have asked Barb if she would be so kind to serve as a feature writer from time to time as her story telling abilities are legendary. I need stitches myself after some of her stories.

Of course our many photographers - ponderers - and philosophers are welcome to contribute as well. We are all busy on the rainbow - and I feel no sense of urgency to take this anywhere at any speed other than the slow roll of the happy mutant.

Please take a look - it's your site - let me know what you think - and let's have fun on the rainbow. Just enter www.rvmutants.com in URL line and take a look.

The Journey Is The Destination!

On Edit - I forgot to add - you will need to click on desktop site - as I have not built the mobil site yet. I will in due time.
