Ha! Try Japan. Small cars, smaller streets.

Not according to Earlene when I drive!

Okinawa Japan switched from right hand drive to left hand drive on July 30, 1978. All traffic except essential and emergency vehicles was stopped at 10 p.m. on the 29th and the roads were opened at 6 a.m. on July 30, 1978. All traffic signs were changed also during that time. Many had been installed prior and covered. They imported police from other parts of Japan to augment the Okinawa police. It was stated to me that they had police at every intersection directing traffic. There were still accidents.

When we got there we had to learn how to drive on the left. I didn't have a problem except when leaving the darn parking lots. For some reason I always want to drive on the right when leaving large parking lots. Took a few months to get over that. (If I ever did) Transitioning back to RHD when we returned to the U.S. was easy.

Just read this week that the odds of dying in a auto accident, in you lifetime in the USA is one out of a hundred. Not in a year. But with all the texting and other distracted driving going on here it may get that bad!

I was told:

" This week, in England: All cars will start driving on the right side . . . .

Next week, if that works OK, the Lorries (Trucks) will switch over to the right side too! "

Richard, I don't care what the others think, I laughed at that one. Maybe they didn't get it and you should explain it to them.

Correct quote but wrong city/country. It was supposedly claimed by the one time mayor of Victoria BC.

That's the least of trucker's worries. My DD who lives in Kent, the SE county through which trucks go to reach the channel ports, tells me of the total road chaos that will ensue if the UK drops out from the EU without a 'deal'. Customs inspections will be set up at the ports, where none exist at the moment, causing tremendous tailbacks of the truck traffic. The g'ment has plans to turn the M20 and M26 motorways (Interstates) into holding areas, together with the airfield at RAF Manston, leaving only the M2 open for non-port traffic. People who normally use the M20/26 for commuting will have to find other routes on local roads and the fear is that Kent will become totally grid-locked. Schools are likely to be closed and there is likely to be panic buying and hoarding of food supplies.
All this proverbial shooting in the foot starts happening on March 29. You think we have problems? - this one is real!

Ever since that English Gentleman told me that (on a flight to London), I have been trying to figure it out myself...

I hoped the intelligent Mutant crowd could explain it..
