But get this - they won't authorize the repairs or rental car until they talk to the lady who hit me, even though the agent talked to her on Monday and we have a police report in which she admitted that she was at fault. The lady is traveling by MH to California and doesn't have a cell phone.

The adjuster says - "Well, you can drive your car until we talk to our insured."

Oh really? How would you like me to open and close the door? It's jammed shut.

Doesn't matter, she says..."we won't talk to you again until we talk to Mrs. B, our insured. "

I think it's time to lawyer up.
Before you get a lawyer call your insurance company and explain what is happening. Maybe the insurance companies will argue it out, and hope quickly. If not then the lawyer, but that is going to cost also.

That is unacceptable on the part of the adjuster in my opinion. They know she is insured or they would not have assigned one of their adjusters and you would be working on uninsured/under-insured through your agency.

Safety issue. Should some "other" idiot smash into you on the other side you could be trapped in the car and should fire or fumes be present, unable to open the door to escape. Driving the car would put you in a "fear for your Life" scenario that you don't particularly want to be in. "Give me a rental car."

Update:

After a short conversation with my attorney, all of a sudden the rental car is authorized and so is the repair.

I hate having to go this route, but unacceptable is unacceptable. I didn't cause or exacerbate this situation.

I wonder if Enterprise has Jaguars...

You're right, of course!

I have a fear of being caught in a wreck. I'm a volunteer EMT and have seen too many people trapped. I've also seen people die by being ejected without a seatbelt on, so I wear it every time, no exceptions. I carry seatbelt cutters in all of our vehicles (in the sunglass compartment), in the MH (clipped to the curtains) and a rescue knife with window punch and seatbelt cutter in my pocket or on my belt.

PT you are correct that part of MI is almost a purty as the Youper part of the state.

Hey Dave !!

Isnt it amazing how this little thread has blossomed and mutated since day 1, and who would have thought there were so many mutants around ? Needless to say I am quite sure there are many more mutants out there, but they just havent realized they are mutants yet.

Responding to another ponderance; My guess for the two tank system among others is a weight issue, with the grey and black tanks mixed and being large enough to accommodate all that it would have to collect it would be just to much to manage. I agree with them being separated simply because there are still places where you can trickle out your grey water even though people frown upon it. Grey water really is good for the grass by the way.

Cheers !!!

X2 Elizabeth,

We carry the same, you can never be to careful when it comes to an emergency extraction, and you may not have the time to wait for help to arrive, and if help did arrive and they had no way of gaining entrance to get you out, then what happens ? ... answer: nothing....

Cheers !!!

I think it's time to lawyer up.
I'd tell the agent he can either talk to the repair shop and get them working or he can talk to my lawyer and then wait two days and go lawyer shopping.

I understand where their coming from but, your life goes on too. They have a police report and at least one interview with the driver.

With claims handling like this is it any wonder our rates are so high.
Their really isn't any reason to have to hire a lawyer except to get the company off dead center and act according to their contract with the insured.

Agreed - I mentioned this to the claims adjuster.

Fortunately, she is a relative, and doesn't charge us for minor stuff. Even so, it shouldn't be necessary.
We may now return to our mutant programming.
