2 MHs to look at

My fellow Mutants, we have an appt tomorrow afternoon to look at a '97 Georgie Boy in Amarillo. It's a 38' diesel (Cat/Allison) with 101k miles. I talked with the owner, Mark, at length about the coach. He has service/maintenance records. It sounds nice. It does have a propane generator, which I've never heard of. (I think he said the coach has a 40 gal propane tank.)

I know GB is out of business - recession hit a lot of 'em hard - but that's the ONLY thing I know about GB. Anyone able to attest to their quality, fit & finish, etc? What should I look at closely and ask the owner about, etc?

I will not buy tomorrow, just look. Caution is the operative word. No hurry here.

Then, if it is still available, I'll be driving to the Austin area next weekend to look at a '98 Newmar Dutchstar, 38' DP. It looks like a beauty!

Also next weekend, while still in the Austin area and if still available, I will look at a '99 Fleetwood Discovery DP that looks pristine. It's my fave out of these tbree. But, we shall see. We shall see!

Sounds good to me!

Mel,

Have you asked the guys on the Cat and Allison forums? They could probably give you some specific info. Here's the links --

Will also research Cummins/Allison since I'm going to look at a few coaches with that combo, including a 97 Monaco that I forgot to mention above.

Kate is as excited as I have ever seen her. :-)

Hey Mel,

Take a close look at the tires and look for the date codes on them. The date code will be in its own separate spot and will show week and year made, ie: 3812 which would mean the 38th week of 2012. Also look for owners manuals and maintenance records. Look close at the fit and finish inside and out and the operation of all the systems. There is nothing wrong with a propane generator, although mine is diesel, just make sure it works. Do your research on all of them as best as possible. We found our coach in California and we lived in Michigan at the time we found it. And we drove out to look at it and made the purchase, looking is all part of the adventure. We looked at hundreds of coaches online but this one won out, we've been full timing since a year ago in June and know this is the lifestyle for us. Have fun.

Cheers !!!

Oh Mel,

Another thing check the tow bar if it has one and see how it will work with your toad. I would suggest a Jeep, but I'm partial to them, they tow so easy.

Cheers !!!!

This morning we had to leave from our beachside spot. Since the wind is blowing at gust of 30mph moving further away from beach was a plus. Same park, just not right on beach. This was where we were.
