Our Christmas will be sans Tree. Its too high up in storage in the shed and I am not allowed to lift anything over ten pounds and I can't use ladders, The tree is way way up there.

We are working on being within striking distance of an ID GC this summer/EARLY fall. Our goal is to leave IL at the beginning of June, up through MI, across the northern plains and into the Yellowstone NP area. Exiting the GC we would like to go through Salt Lake City and down to the Phoenix/Tuscon area for the winter and then from there do our west coast loop.

I guess the only concern is for what weather we could encounter as we look at September. Nothing would be worse than snow with a bunch of STMs trying to get to and from the location.

The other consideration for location is making it accessible for our Canadian STMs. Since I'm not familiar with the great NW and all its issues, what location would keep the most logical routes open even in the case of some early snow? If we are looking at the SE area ID would some place near I-86 and I-15 between Twin Falls and Idaho Falls be the "sweet spot"? That would seem to give some good interstate routing options to the folks coming from the NW and through the mountains that should be easier to negotiate in questionable weather. I know a couple suggestions that might be in that area have been tossed out but I don't recall what they were.

Given the potential terrain and weather challenges I think it is important that we really plan this one carefully to make sure we make it as successful as the GC@CL and open to as many as possible. To be honest, I'm concerned about the numbers of RVMs that can attend a GC in the NW. How many can seriously commit to one in that area.

Sorry to sound so...organizational about the thing. While you and Steve did a phenomenal job with CL. You were right there to scope it out and Steve put together a lot of things to make it so successful. My concern with this GC is that there doesn't appear anyone with a good knowledge of the area and in a position to replicate the work you did. We really need someone to be in a place to do the legwork.

Now...granted...perhaps I have overestimated the potential for the weather and terrain to be a problem in late August to early September. I also want to make sure that we find a place that folks want to go to. Keep in mind that the shortest driving distance from any Canadian location close to Lethbridge, AB to a central point like Pocatello is about 950km/590mi. From the BC area it is more like 1400km/870mi.

OK...maybe I am overthinking this too.

What haven't you over thought in your life...

I have check the weather and late August and Early Sept should be fine but I will leave weather predictions to the gypsy tea leaves.

Also - I will get in touch with RVM10 - Dick Noble - who made one of the Idaho suggestions. Truth is - I'm going there one way or the other at that time (RVMdom willing) and can go anywhere between Illinois and Idaho for GC 2.0.

But I do not want to bog this thread down with the details or discussions in December.

Let me get the laptop running and get this moving from the Web site and email. And you and I can get the Temps to set up a conference call with Canada - the Poobah - and the elders and see what we can come up with.

No someone give me a perplexing ponder to ponder lol.

No, not over thinking, just preparing, must have been a Boy Scout "Be Prepared".
That's was exactly the type reply I was hoping for. A thought out answer. I've been mulling over the situation and visiting Yellowstone on our way to Idaho was one of our scenarios and depending on the info you replied with on CA that was another scenario. I, like you, am concerned about the weather if we wait to late so heading south immediately following GC sounds logical.
CA is definitely on our bucket list, Pacific Highway in toad a must!

There are some pretty places across the river from us. There's plenty of river traffic to watch as you sit on your dock with your bevvy in hand (adult or otherwise). The Gulf is beyond, just around the corner and through the pass.

The highway passes up in my area (north and west of the possible GC) do not get troublesome until mid / late October.

I think we should appoint Barb, the wanderer acclaim, to be our official scouter outter and have he scope out both on her spring journey north. She knows all the ins and outs and can use Sena as a bargaining tool to get us really terrific rates. JKing on the last part. Quasi serious about the rest if it fits Barb, the beautiful's plans.

Sue you hang in there. It's a tough journey but you can handle it.

The part of Idaho we saw was ok, but not breathtaking.
While i hope we get to come. I have kids and grandkids and really do need to plan ahead some..... I personally would rather it be in Utah... Where was that one that was suggested?

Just don't want to isolate people who can't attend - no matter what location we decide on or when.

We are making headway toward a normal life here - but Annie has been struggling with the weather and sinusitis - and today I'm feeling tired. We are 5 miles from Don and Sandee and we have 3.5 months to play together. Don and I were talking last night about things to do and see - and Anne and Sandee are planning a spa day. They know the area from last year and Annie and I are doing a little exploring on our own. It's not a vacation and we are actually making an effort to slow down. Heck we didn't see our neighbors everyday when we were in the apartment. But believe me - they will be tired if us before it's over... lol.

I have 2 inches of guides and brochures on things to do in the RGV - the park bus took folks to a local wildlife refuge yesterday and we missed that cause Annie wasn't up to it.

I still don't know how to operate all the wizardry of CRVMutant and need to read those manuals. And on and on... life on the rainbow is great - nothing but time to do as we please.... and we're just getting started!
