Hunter replaced the alternator and put the wires all back the way they were on the old alternator. Came in started the engine up let it run for a few minutes then went to turn it off. The dashboard lights went off but the engine kept running. He turned the key again on and then off and the dashboard went off again but the engine is still running.
He had to go out and disco bed the 2 - 12 volt chassis batteries to get the engine to shut down.
Any ideas?

I don't have any ideas, but I sure don't want your fuel bill when you get to Texas.

McCall, Idaho report
Hey Steve,
It's sure a pretty drive from Boise to McCall, ID -- pretty scenic and pretty tough driving, especially pulling a toad. Lots of twists and turns, ups and downs, arounds and overs with a sprinkling of road construction for seasoning.
McCall is a resort town with all the tourist shops and plenty of restaurants. I thought it would be cooler, but the temps are in the mid 70's. The lake looks busy, but also very scenic. Traffic thru town crawls even slower than the 25 mph speed limit.
That concludes this week's resort report.

Thanks Barb.. if it were easy, everyone would be there lol...
I checked it out from a couple of sources - none as good as your mutant scouting report!
I think we'll just put in slow and low and engine retarder and just give er a go.

We didn't actually tour the Corn Palace today but we did visit Mitchell, found a nice park to move to a few miles down the road from us in Salem SD.
We had lunch at Rita's Place in Mitchell. If passing through I recommend it. Nice little place. And it comes with a bowling alley... lol. The salad bar was great and so was the steak samich. What will tomorrow bring?
What a day. Talked to Possum - Marty - and a non-mutant friend while traveling I-90. Surprised how many people take that 80 MPH speed limit seriously... even in CR-V Mutant I had the cruise on 70 and kept in the right lane. Scarry when a pickup passes with a 5th wheel and you look over at his boat as goes by.

I don't know that this will help, but we have a Cummins 330 hp and when our motor did that Dave lifted the bed to expose the engine, then used a stick to push this thingy down until the engine shut off. It's called a fuel shutoff solenoid. Then he would push it back up, using the same stick, so the engine would start again. We got bids from $350 to $800 for the replacement part from local suppliers. We found it on ebay for $29 to $80. It's was only a 7-curse word repair, which is really simple for Dave. Changing oil in his car requires 27 c-words.
Your problem may be entirely different (like ignition module or something) but if it's true that misery is scary when you're all alone, just know that we share your burden. Let us know what it turns out to be.
Oh, and you can have this fuel shutoff module (in the picture) if it's the right one. When I found the ebay sale I bought several.

Thanks for the idea. Hunter thinks we need all new batteries too now. They are on order at NAPA now. He has successfully fixed our problem thanks everyone! He isn't quite sure what he did that fixed it as I was suppose to be watching the front dash as I was making jam......I was distracted and didn't notice until he was sitting down outside. But everything is working now except the new rebuilt alternator. oh and I got jam made lol

I forgot to tell you that there is a road to take to get around of the downtown area. Sorry. At least you got the whole experience. It is also best if you take that drive before Friday as all the weekenders from Boise head to the mountains. On Fridays you have all the traffic heading to McCall and on Sunday you see them heading back to Boise.
