Our new neighbor...
Change of plans.. sprinkling off and on - wind kicking up and yet still hot. Heading north to Cedar City.
Zions is Shuttle Bus only now - and you have to get on and off to see / hike the sites. Treat of rain is sending us on a day trip with CR-V Mutant. Wouldn't be too much of a problem otherwise - but the complete trip - is 80 minutes - if you don't get off and see the sites... much longer if you do. With rain possible it doesn't feel right for today.

Steve, the best part of being retired is being able to change your plans. No dictators
When I was at Zion the shuttle buses were narrated tours -- very informative and quite enjoyable. Also, they had windows on the roof. Most of what there is to see at Zion is done by looking up at the majestic and awe inspiring view. The buses have lifts so you can take your scooter and there is an accessible trail at the far end.
Part of the park was drivable, then shuttles only where the road forks off to the left. One not to miss feature is the tunnel at the far end of the right fork. It has windows! I drove it in the MoHo and since it was built so many years ago, RVs have to drive down the center in order to have enough clearance. This requires a $15 toll and rangers stop the oncoming traffic.
I was at Zion before the new knees so I only got off the shuttle at the visitor center and the accessible trail. I didn't feel slighted by any means. Every where you look there is another jaw-dropping view. Even if you could drive CRV-Mutant up the left fork you couldn't see more than the shuttle view without hiking.
At Zion you look up to see the best view, at Bryce the sights are all down. Zion is mostly dark, heavy rock, but Bryce has a light and frilly feeling. It's hard to believe the parks are so close. I highly recommend seeing both on the same trip if at all possible.
I also really enjoyed the drive we took east from Bryce on UT-12. It seemed that the landscape totally changed every 10-15 miles and some looked like alien planet topography.
Enjoy!

Tim, you got close to Bryce on that detour! It's only 75 miles from Kanab.

Thanks Barb. I have been reading up. In Cedar City now and the change in temp is dramatic. About 1 hour from St. George and the difference is dramatic. Extremely nice here. Still looks like it could rain.
This book has a lots of info and the CG gave us more! We are about 26 miles from Cedar Breaks National Monument... will be there soon. Stopped for an Icee... yum.
